Ordered an SE with a few extras, including deployable tow bar and matrix lights. A few other pretty standard extras, heated steering wheel, privacy glass and sunroof. Ordered mid October last year.

Despite the inordinate wait, I can’t get my head round agreeing to buy a car, obviously with little to no discount and then getting rogered on your trade in when the new car eventually transpires.
It’s not the way I’d do business and leaves it open to severe abuse by the dealer either by way of equipment/spec, rrp, which they could justify if the model changes year on or your trade in car has gone down £10k plus.
In the time you’ve both been waiting for your new car that never arrives, my D5 has gone down about £15k, whilst a new car has skyrocketed.
Cut your losses guys, you ain’t going to come out of this smelling of roses.

The price of a low mileage used D5 is more than a new one, and trying to find one of the build that I want is nigh on impossible. Unfortunately I will probably end up going to something else.
Then they say Discovery is their lowest selling model. Not surprised if they don't build them.

Sadly a lot of the components in short supply for a discovery also goes in the new RR and thats where they are ending up. The discovery is a dead concept as far as JLR are concerned.

All these updates from people re: their orders, so I thought I'd chase Harwoods for an update on my Metropolitan, which is a fortnight off being 10 months since I ordered (at which time I was quoted 9-12months for delivery, as the best estimation). I note the LR website still says 9-12m today... Crazy when they clearly can't build them.
I also asked what would happen if I asked to swap my order from the D5 mild hybrid to a RR Sport plug-in hybrid. Here's what they told me:
I have checked your order for you and sadly the latest update is that it is still ‘unslotted’ with no confirmed build date, unfortunately this does not tell me if this is due to a certain component, engine or specification constraint.
If you were to switch the order to a Range Rover Sport this would be placed as a fresh order and the 12-18 month lead time would start from this point.
I apologise the news is not the best and of course we will keep you updated of any changes. Should you decide to cancel your order with us I would of course authorise a refund of your deposit.
Crazy world we live in.............

If you are serious about the Sport then shop around or ask about slots that have become free.
I have just ordered A P440e Sport in December for a May build slot, it was a cancelled order by someone switching to a Defender.
There is definelatly more of a flow of Sport's through the dealers.

Thank you - and very interesting. Out of interest, how did you find the driving position vs the Discovery? Much lower or less upright?

To be honest I did not notice any real difference once I had adjusted the seat to my desired position.
The car feels more "enclosed" than the Discovery, not sure why.
However It's a very nice place to be and I guess just different.

Wow, that's quite a scary read. I had no idea the Discovery was in such little demand! Such small volumes and they can't even meet the 'demand'. Maybe I will ask to borrow that X5 hybrid for a weekend and see if I can make it work....

The numbers are going to be low because you can't get one. If you go to a dealers now they are quoting 2 years delivery as opposed to 9 months to a year for the defender which is similar, (not as good in my opinion in all areas). So which one would you order if you feel you need a vehicle of this type.

This present Disco will defo be my last LR. A combination of I am not mentally deranged enough to wait that length of time for a new vehicle, plus my current car has had a new discs and pads all round, new engine, refitted windscreen, replaced drivers electric window motor and now it’s in the main dealership needing (I think) a new alternator and it’s sub 35k miles.
Most of it was covered by warranty, but it’s the sheer inconvenience of it all, so after at least half a dozen new LRs it’s time to reflect and buy something different tbh. The brand has gone down the tubes. It doesn’t stand for exclusivity and premium, it stands for sheer stupidity in buying one to start with. I am embarrassed driving it.

I personally wouldnt waste my time ordering a new Discovery now as I dont think you will ever see it full stop. JLR most likely will shut down orders soon anyhow. Just remember what TATA did for British steel 😢
