    Any more luck with this?

My service is due in July/August, I may ask them to look at it then.

Not sure if I’ve just got used to it, but I’ve not noticed it as much in the warmer weather. Saying that I probably will now I’ve said that!

So looking under the bonnet, this (circled) is what sounds like and feels when touched is the vibration and droning noise source.

The part number mentions fuel pump.

Car booked in for service next month, I mentioned my problem and they said they will look to diagnose it for £150.

Not guaranteed but worth a try.

    By way of an update.

Service completed today at a main dealer and at the same time I asked them to diagnose the noise.

The technician has indicated that the noise is a characteristic of the car and that it is the cam belt teeth. Apparently the D5 has two cam belts, and this is the noise of one of them and is normal.

I would’ve thought if it’s a characteristic of the car or engine, I’d read more posts on this, maybe only certain owners tune in to it!
