Aqua planning etc
Does anyone else have issues with the handling of there disco in wet weather? Ours moves all over the road aqua planning going through puddles,
We have all weather tyres on it,

2017 HSE now sold, if you own WF17AXN then you have a well sorted car!

The aquaplaning speed can be calculating the square root of the tyre pressure and multiplying by 9.
Foe example, tyre pressure 36, square root is 6, multiply by 9, equals 54 mph, above which you can expect to aquaplane.

That formula is for dynamic aquaplaning only, there are multiple types of aquaplaning.
Only heard of that regarding aircraft landing, maybe wrong, usually am!

Hmm, sounds a bit odd. I have found the Discovery to be the best car I have ever had for remaining stable and straight with little kick back when hitting standing water. Presumably the sheer weight helps. That's on the standard Pirelli Scorpions, and obviously the more tread on them the better.
I'm still pretty cautious in these conditions though, following an unpleasant experience a few years back with a different car that almost had me come to grief.

That’s interesting.
I had always thought that having too high a tyre pressure increased the risk of aquaplaning. The only time I hit this sort of problem was when driving solo after pitching the caravan…and I hadn’t dropped the tyre pressure back to normal load pressures.
Using that formula if my tyres were at 49psi then 7 x 9 would mean I wouldn’t aquaplane till 63mph.
Surely the less rubber in contact with the road, the more likely you are to lose traction?

When I googled it I found it on a aircraft site and was talking about landing on a flooded runway.
I guess a stationary wheel being put into water and then expected to rotate at high speed is not good!
Apparently there are 3 types of aquaplaning according to Google.

Always a tire issue, and a speed issue. Tread depth is the biggest factor - you will notice even good winter tires will aquaplane when the tread wears past a certain point.
