Tyre noise
Has anyone experience on how rim and tyre size affects to the tyre noise?
I have currently 275/45R21 wheels and compared to my old D3 with 255/60R18 i find the tyre noise almost unbearable.
So if I change to 20" (or even 19") would the tyre noise decrease noticeable?
Otherwise I do not have any complaints on the 21", steering, handling and looks are perfect.
Also how much would it affect to chance from Continentals to other brand tyres?

I went from 19” to 21” haven’t noticed much in the way of road noise. I’m running Pirelli Scorpion Verde

Road noise?
I have just acquired a 2018 HSE model and noticed road noise at 50mph plus. I think it sounds similar to drag noise when roof bars are on, but definitely coming from below the car.
I am running 275/45R21s so maybe based on your experience that's what it is - but it seems ridiculously loud for such a high spec car.
I considered maybe the prop shaft bearings needed replaced but I've had a look and a shake and they seem tight and as they should.
Other potential cause is that the previous owner retrofitted the official retractable door steps and so the plastic guards along the runnders have been cut to allow the mounts to fit. They aren't loose exactly but there's a potential flapping at high speeds that could add to the din.
Any thoughts or any others having similar experience?

Have the tyres got the noise deadening inserts in them? People replace the original tyres with cheaper tyres then wonder why road noise goes up. If they are Pirelli's, they will have PNCS on the side wall if the inserts are present.

Thanks - it has one Pirelli on it and unfortunately cheap crap on the other 3. Replacing one this week as its low with new Pirelli but may as well let the others run down before changing them since they're more than £200 a piece.
Will feed back once Pirellis are on all round.

For best road noise you need Pirelli tyres specific to LR, and with the Noise control inserts. On Black circles the NCs tyres are rated 69dB for road noise whereas the non NCS are rated at 72dB. 3dB is a doubling of noise.

To most people, tyres are just black & round (hopefully), however, during vehicle development the vehicle manufacturer will work with selected tyre companies and the tyre compound will be tuned to suit the ride, handling and noise trade-offs that the vehicle manufacturer decides. So you could find Pirellis with no obvious branding, LandRover, BMW or Mercedes for instance. When people fit cheapo replacements they don't understand that they will have compromised some aspects of vehicle behavior.

Thanks again for all this help.
I bought 275/45R21 PIRELLI SCORPION VERDE ALL SEASON LR 110Y XL A/S from speedy wheels as I needed them asap for an upcoming trip to EU. They say 71db and match the other proper LR tyre installed on the car. Half the tyres obviously wont fix the issue but within a few months I'll swap out the other 2 and, as you say, that should make a significant difference.
