    Smaller wheels

Even 20 s look small for such a huge body

21 minimum or 22s Thumbs Up

Will put up photos tonight of a D5 with 23s Laughing

ps odd size rims like 17,19,21 etc are more expensive than 18,20,22s, when coming too replace the tyres, as they are an odd size apparently.

Mind you i may get a set of 18s for mud plugging (like Grabber ATS with a chunky tread pattern ) as wont be as easily damaged like the 22s.

My only concern is if they will clear the calipers ??? Rolling Eyes[/quote]

    Hi, new boy around here.
It's funny how tastes change as my 1990 Nissan Patrol came with 15" wheels and still has them (yes it's still going strong, my daughter has it now, she was 6 when we got it. As I had mentioned in a reply to 18" wheels in Off Road, there is a fellow in Australia who has designed and engineered an 18" wheel specifically for the D4/RRS with the larger brakes. Will allow a much broader choice of tyres for on or off road.
The problem with 22" is their replacement cost ($200 Aus per tyre extra). Lack of choice, my local tyre centre only had 1 tyre choice in their catalogue in that size, a Pirelli, and they couldn't change a 22" tyre anyway as their machine couldn't handle more than a 21".
So I may well be looking at a set of GOE 18" rims if they fit the newer vehicle.

My car on 21" rims has solid precise steering, it even feels 'sporty' in fact it reminds me of the petrol Dynamic Evoque the wife had a few years ago.

Thanks for that mate. Thumbs Up I still have a set of 19s for my D4 which were used for offroading, but again am not sure if the PCD/Offset is the same as the D5.??

Thats pocket money Slickmick, especially if you can afford a car like that in the first place mate Laughing

Mind you there are lots of cheaper brands on the go, but as i have experienced myself they are bad enough in the dry not too mention in the wet. My old tyres which were just on the limit performed better than the brand new ones i put on it, both in the dry and in the wet. I wont make that mistake ever again!!!.

Mind you its alot of beer money also Big Cry Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

I had a set of Nankangs on a Mercedes E Class and only 3000 miles later I was aquaplaning like mad. After that experience, I decided to stick with premium brands.

Would be interesting to see how many miles a set of Pirelli Verde tyres last on the Disco.

I had cheapo China ones on my Subaru Sti, £200 for 4 tyres compared too £125- £150 for 1 normally. Had Dunlop Super Sports on originally. Lasted 30k. Also had Bridgestone Potenzas on my last 2 Sti's, which were an excellent semi-slick tyre. Quite a hard compound, and a very sticky tyre once heated up. Excellent handling in the dry, and around Knockhill racetrack, and quite good in the wet, but an absolute nightmare in the snow as hardly any tread pattern. Like I said that's the first time I scrimped on tyres as was only keeping the car for 1 more year hence thought get budget tyres. Not a wise choice I can tell you. Shocked

Yes that will be interesting too see how well they fare. As your probably aware its all dependant on driving style. Offroading, heavy towing, correct tyre pressures, harsh braking, kerbing, will all affect the tyres longevity. Sorry for pointing out the obvious. Thumbs Up

I have to say, I'm very pleased with the Pirelli Scotpion ATR's I've got on my D4. Handle snow (yes we do get it here up in the mountains) very well and have lasted just over 100,000km. Not so happy with the General AT, 60,000 kms and increasingly noisy after 20,000kms. Those are 19" btw. 255/55.

I have had Pirelli Scorpions before. Excellent all round tyre. I have had General AT Grabbers as well, and due to the chunky knobbly tread pattern, they were quite a noisy tyre compared to the Pirellis, especially on the road and I found myself constantly battling with the steering wheel too keep it in a straight line. However offroad, it did miles better than the Pirellis would do especially in the mud. Thumbs Up
I always dismissed tyre choices before I seriously got into rallying, and offroading assuming they were all the same. How wrong was I Shocked . It's a science too say the least. Hard compound, soft compound, intermediate compound, summer tyres, winter tyres, all season tyres, offroading tyres, not to mention run flats, self sealing etc. It's mind-boggling. At the end of the day you pay for quality. Buy cheap you buy twice. Cheap tyres will definitely wear out alot quicker not too mention inferior braking in the wet and general road handling and noise is inferior to a branded tyre. If you value your life and your families it's a no brainer spending an extra few hundred quid Thumbs Up

    Mine wanders

I have 22s and the car feels like it has a lot of grip and turns in well but it does wander a fair bit on the motorway. Would be interesting to hear if anyone has this rectified by a dealer. S
