I loaded a large item a couple of days ago which was higher than the height of the loadspace cover, so the loadspace cover was removed.
There was an other item that I was going to place between the large item already loaded and the tailgate. But, it was likely that the tailgate blind would hit it when the tailgate closed, so remembering this topic on Disco5.co.uk I decided not to load it on to the vehicle, in case the tailgate blind connectors were damaged.
It is only this evening, when I have some time, that I have been looking into what I should have done and came across on the iGuide that the tailgate blind could be removed.

Aye, it can be easily removed in those circumstances. It just unclips.

For large items in the load space, when there is a risk that the tailgate in closing will hit the item, my thoughts are that the clearances should be checked by slowing closing the tailgate by hand (rather than a powered closing). Is this what others tend to do?
It is of course assumed that larger loads will if be secured to prevent movement, with padding being used on the load adjacent where the tailgate will be once it is closed.

The power close tailgate will stop if it encounters an obstruction (usually my head) in mid closure. If the possible obstruction has sharp edges a precautionary piece of padding (in lieu of a head) would serve the same purpose.
