Stop start on but never activated

It seems everyone is trying to deactivate this but I’m trying to understand why mine isn’t working
    Any idea 💡 guys ?

I’m sure it can be disabled by unplugging a cable in the rear battery cubby.
There is a video showing how to do this BUT if your battery is low on charge, stop/start doesn’t always function on my car and I presume this is common.

Video showing how to disable this annoyance is here:

A previous owner has maybe disconnected it using the method Narpy posted...or disabled it with an IID tool, the option is there in the CCF listing to disable it as well as enabling or disabling the button memory function.

I put a how to post on the tips and tricks section on enabling the button memory function with an IID tool a day or so ago... https://disco5.co.uk/forum/thread4188.html

Works fine on the Bling Barge now since it remembers the last selection for the auto stop/start button. I've always switched the damned thing off as soon as I start the car... so it now defaults to that when I start up...saves pressing the button every time.

Maybe my battery is in permanent low charge (short journeys) because if I have the air con on, the auto stop never kicks in. Only if I’ve been on a longer journey or don’t have aircon switched on, does the car shut down.

See, I think swmbo has auto climate on always so that could be a reason
I’ve charged the battery with my ctek so I know it’s good

Only reason I’m doing all this is because it’s still under five months of warranty so I wanna make sure and check everything before that runs out

My auto stop/start always seemed to work even when the car was giving the message 'Battery low, please start engine' first thing in the morning...or at least it allowed me to press the stop/start button and disable it. Pressing that button was so built into habit that I still go to switch it off after I start the engine even though it's now off by default after the CCF edit Rolling Eyes

Not sure how different years of the D5 handle the stop/start. I read somewhere that some models had a second battery, some had a hybrid main battery that handled everything. I know mine only has a single main battery since I've raked around in the battery compartment...if there had been a rogue battery shoved in there, I'd surely have noticed.

I'd tend to agree that low battery voltage would effect it's operation...although on the occasions I'd forgotten to press the damned button, the auto stop/start would only kick in under certain conditions...like the length of time my foot was on the brake pedal or something?... Since it didn't always stop the engine at junctions, even if I had to bring the car to a complete halt.

We don't have exotic things like traffic lights...or traffic...or towns up here that I could properly test it. Not that the stop/start served any useful purpose for me up here in the middle of the north sea. It's just a fuel guzzling, DPF destroying annoyance that kept shutting my engine off when I didn't want it to.

Besides the annoyance factor and needless battery drain adding to the list of reasons why an auto stop/start being enabled by default is a bad idea, I hated that it took agency and control away from me as a driver...hence me searching through the CCF list with an IID tool to find that button memory option and enabling it.

Having an IID tool, the CCF edit seemed the better option rather than pulling the plug out since the stop/start still works exactly as it's supposed to... except now, I can make the conscious decision to enable it by pressing the button, rather than the car making that decision on it's own.

So I’ve checked the wire that plugs onto near the battery that’s okay that’s plugged in. I’ve been reading up online in the manuals and it says that if the car is being used for jump starting it can damage the BMS
Which I believe monitors the battery voltage or current and whether or not the stop start should activate anybody else got any thoughts on this?
Now I know this video link I add is for a discovery sport but I believe it is a very similar system to the discovery

Maybe it's had a new battery fitted at some point and the BMS hasn't been reset...

Have you got a Gen 4 IID tool Dazz? If you have you can test the BMS for DTC's from there. Not sure if the older Gen 3 IID tool will do it...may be worth a try though.

It'll have G3 or G4 on the label...the D5 needs the G4 version. It's £220 to upgrade from the G3 to the G4 on the GAP website...

I’ll check when I’m home tonight
Tbf it’s still linked to the D3 because of repairing it so not changing it just yet till that’s sold

Like I said...it might be that the battery has been replaced at some point but the BMS reset by telling the car it's got a new battery might not have been done...could be the BMS module that's faulty, but easy things first.
