Incontrol secure (think ts now called protect) is an additional subscription based service which monitors the cars location. if it is stolen it notifies you and (i think) the fuzz. This is separate to incontrol remote and remote premium which allow remote monitoring of the cars status such as fuel levels, remote heating door locking etc plus also the add on of route planning, live traffic monitoring, route logging etc. I can sit in the house and use the LR route planner app to sort out my journey. When i get in the car it talks to the phone and knows wher I want to go etc.

I have purchased a 25GD SIM from three valid for 24 months. Cost £34. Popped it into the sim slot in the cubby allowing satellite view and street view on the sat nav plus also (if I turn it on) my car becomes a local hot spot for occupants.

All said I’m actually impressed with the Connectivity, functions and ease of all this.

Pasted these for my incontrol log in pages which I hope helps…

    REMOTE PREMIUM
Land Rover Remote Premium upgrades you from the Remote Essential Smartphone App with a set of features which allow you to remotely interact with your vehicle. Land Rover Remote Premium app will allow you to find your car in a crowded car-park by using the map function with the added benefit of remote Beep and Flash. You can also remotely lock or unlock your vehicle and precondition the cabin (may not be available on all vehicles) to a comfortable temperature ahead of time.

    PROTECT
You’ll find Land Rover Protect makes life easier when it really counts.

The Remote Essential Smartphone App lets you prepare for a trip by checking fuel levels and range remotely. You can find your vehicle in a crowded car park and check if you have left doors or windows open. You can also download your journeys to assist in claiming business mileage expenses.

The SOS Emergency Call will bring the emergency services to the exact location of the vehicle and in the unlikely event of a breakdown, the Optimised Land Rover Assistance will use GPS and vehicle health information to minimise delay.

Note: Mobile network connectivity and vehicle position accuracy cannot be guaranteed in all locations.

    PRO SERVICES
Land Rover Pro Services adds a suite of connectivity features to your infotainment system including Live and an in-car Wi-Fi hotspot. Connectivity for these is provided by a SIM card which is inserted in the SIM card slot in your vehicle. Please see your vehicle handbook for more information.

Connected Navigation services supplied by Land Rover can be managed directly at www.landrover.here.com

Thank you all for your input.
I actually got to go and see the 2019 HSE LUX today. Very nice car, but with a couple of concerns. There was black paint spottled on the plastic grille, and it was like something had melted it in places. Also the passenger rear door seemed to drop a bit when opened. Inside was mint, and engine sounded nice.
BUT, there was another Discovery there with steps on it. This was only the 3rd time out for my wife since coming out of hospital. As i explained earlier, she had to have emergency surgery on her spine. Which went wrong, and a 2nd emergency surgery was needed. She then got hospital pneumonia on top.
Anyway, it has left her learning how to walk again, and with a severe weakness on her left leg.
She tried to get into the one with steps, and unfortunately couldn't. She made several attempts, but still no. So as she did like the car so much, we are going to try again when her rehabilitation is further along. So we will have one eventually, just that we will have to put it on hold for a couple of months.
So i will be watching all your posts, and you will let you all know when i have made a purchase.
    Thanks again.

Same from me Squizzel, I know first hand the difficulties your wife and you are dealing with. As I mentioned back at the start of this thread... before we wandered off topic with the LR Remote app... my wife is also disabled after a riding accident 2 years ago.

She spent 3 months in a coma after rupturing her colon (amongst other serious injuries) after being thrown from her horse. The ruptured colon resulted in sepsis and almost took her life. She still has a fair bit of muscle atrophy from the length of time spent bed ridden and has very poor mobility due to the catalogue of operations she's had to go through to deal with the many, many complications brought on as a result of the sepsis and other injuries.

Like your other half, she's had to relearn all the basic mobility skills. We also had to rethink transport needs as she could no longer get into our old D2 with the 4" lift kit...or the D4 with the rock sliders/tree bars and found the square-ish front doors and seat height awkward which is why I thought the D5 with it's larger front doors and lower seat height might be a bit easier for her to handle. We did look at other SUV's from BMW, Audi and Volvo...but after the D4, none of those competitors really fit the bill.

She quickly sussed out a technique that suited her for getting in and out of the D5 using the sidestep and grab handle (with some assistance from me initially), and with setting the lower auto-access height when parked, she's got it off to pat now just using a walking stick for a bit of assistance and independence as she gets in and out...

She loves the D5, even prefers it to the much loved D4 we had previously. She finds the seats a bit firmer and more supportive than the D4 but just as comfy on longer trips.

Still haven't worked out how I'm going to get her up the ladder into the roof tent though...we may have to rethink the whole off-road camping thing and either mount a hi-ab on the roof to crane her up there...or just opt for B&B instead. Whistle

Amongst all the other adjustments she's had to make since her injury, she especially hates that riding pillion is also a thing of the past after spending 40 years on the back of my motorbikes Neutral

The bikes have all since been sold except for one. I can't remember the last time I rode any of the bikes solo and none of them 'felt' right without her on the back so they had to go. It's been a shared passion since we first met so I have no interest in having a garage full of shiny motorbikes that are no longer going to be ridden...

She absolutely forbade me from ever selling 'DC' though... since it was the first Harley she ever allowed me to buy back in 1998...She chose the bike at the Harley Davidson dealership, she also gave it it's name and insisted on the pillar-box red and white colour scheme when I custom painted it (I was all for painting it blue and naming it 'Rain Magnet'). We travelled 272,248 miles on that bike together all over Europe and the kids, especially our daughter, practically grew up on the back of it. So plenty of very happy memories and albums full of photos Cool

Off topic bike talk and joking about roof tents aside, I wish you both all the very best and above all, a speedy and full recovery for your other half. Hope to see you back here soon with a report and some photos if you do indeed decide on a D5 Thumbs Up

Looked at 2 discos today, 1st was a 2017 HSE lux. Quite bad shape to be honest. But it had land rover side steps. My wife managed to get in, but when she tried to raise the passenger seat, it didn't go very high. Next to me she seemed to be sitting quite low. Anyway this car was out of the question because of the condition, and also the belts hadn't been done. If that's the case at this age and condition, it hasn't been cared for.
Car 2, Silver late 2018 HSE lux (2019 spec). 96000 miles, 3 small chips on the boot, otherwise mint, and spotless inside. Full Land Rover service history, belts done, gearbox flushed, 6 months warranty on everything (including crank failure). No steps so my wife couldn't get in to try how far the seat went up. I test drove it and no knocks or bumps ect drove really nice.
    So 2 questions
Does the passenger seat not raise as much as the drivers ?
Are aftermarket side steps the same width as the land rover ones, ? i was looking at the predator ones.
    Thanks again for any input

    Hi

Just been and moved both my seats and the passenger does go as high as the driver. Ignoring the seat back, there are two adjustments with the front of the seat base. You can lift the front or the back up separately. Lifting all up to the max shows very little difference between the two seats.

I have OEM steps and they are quite wide at the mid point of the open door. I’d say at least 5” foot space.

Both seats should adjust to a similar height, I know both mine do. Compared to a D3 or a D4 though, you sit more in the D5 than on it...if you know what I mean... so the seats always seem lower, especially looking over that huge expanse of bonnet..

As for sidesteps, there are several branded after market ones out there from trusted suppliers far cheaper than official OEM price. Mine are OE but were already fitted before I bought the car. If I had to replace mine at any point...it would be these ones linked below. They use the same brackets and fitments etc. At the end of the day...they're all made in China regardless of which logo is stamped on them Wink

    Britpart steps from LRParts link

There are a few other decent quality after market steps...varying styles and prices. They're not too difficult to fit DIY but most dealers will fit sidesteps, mudflaps etc for you if asked, especially if you buy the sidesteps yourself and drop them off or have them delivered to the dealer...The small indy dealer I bought mine from fitted front and rear genuine LR mudflaps free of charge as a goodwill gesture, even though I was willing to pay for them.

DIY fitting video for Britpart or OE sidesteps...You don't need the ramps as used in the video, raising the suspension is more than enough... unless you're built like a rugby union tight-head prop. Thumbs Up

Thanks guys, i did go back and look at the silver one again today. Stoneacres are having my Arkana back, so that's all sorted.. Steps have just been ordered, one of the keys didn't work, so they are sorting that for me. I have gone through the full Land Rover service history while i was there, that's all good. Last service was done by an independent that i actually do know of, and have got a good name. They also did the cam belt. So i pick my new disco up tomorrow afternoon, photos to follow.
