Hmmmm, mine's not like that. That's not as a result of opening the boot when parked too close to something like a brick wall behind, is it? I know I made that mistake on my first D5, pressed the wrong button in my pocked and than cried....

    This work?

Common fault but unusual on both sides ( I believe).

Mine had it when I bought the car 6 years ago….not done anything to it, and it’s no worse now.

Mine has the same tell-tale scuff mark but on one side only. It's usually on the left hand side of that plastic boot lid trim and caused by the way the locking mechanism works. It's a fairly common issue on the D5 and it appears on the slightly older cars (with slightly worn boot hinges) due to the boot lid electronically soft locking after closing. It's an audible event, you can hear the lock engaging and pulling the boot lid closed an extra inch or so against the rubber seal. It's not a thing to get too worried about as it doesn't interfere with the boot operation. It shouldn't get any worse over time. My Bling Barge is almost 9 years old and the boot still works fine Thumbs Up

Reassuring! Thanks very much. Yeah i think each one of the cars i've seen had both sides in this condition.

Maybe they are ones adjusted too far the other way by a JLR technician. Rolling with laughter

Ha - No doubt. I work in an OEM so i know what goes on . . . . Anyway, seems harmless damage. I might try and sand them back a little and paint them in, or get the Tailgate adjusted in time...

Again. thanks for all the help and support.

Now you mention it, my first D5 had this. Until I was lightly rear-ended by a van, and the dealer bodyshop pointed it out, and said "oh we'll take care of this and respray as part of the repairs we're doing". I've not seen the marks on my current D5.
