Mine had it when I bought the car 6 years ago….not done anything to it, and it’s no worse now.
Mine has the same tell-tale scuff mark but on one side only. It's usually on the left hand side of that plastic boot lid trim and caused by the way the locking mechanism works. It's a fairly common issue on the D5 and it appears on the slightly older cars (with slightly worn boot hinges) due to the boot lid electronically soft locking after closing. It's an audible event, you can hear the lock engaging and pulling the boot lid closed an extra inch or so against the rubber seal. It's not a thing to get too worried about as it doesn't interfere with the boot operation. It shouldn't get any worse over time. My Bling Barge is almost 9 years old and the boot still works fine

Maybe they are ones adjusted too far the other way by a JLR technician.

The tailgate is also plastic...which is more flexible and deforms a bit more than aluminium or mild steel over time. Heat and cold also effect it slightly more so the boot lid may be a bit tighter at the bottom during summer.
I haven't looked at the hinges to see if there's any adjustment, there may well be...but if it's just the hinge pins wearing a bit after thousands of openings and closings over the years, unless it causes major alignment issues, I'm leaving it well alone. I won't lose any sleep worrying about a couple of harmless scuff marks.
I replaced the rear door on one of my D2's (cost me £100 for a colour matched one from a scrappie. The stickers were free) due to the hinges being bent after that sail of a side opening rear door got caught by a strong gust of wind which ripped the hinged safety bar off the bottom of the door and twisted the main hinges out of shape...I really don't relish messing around with the tailgate on the D5...even though it's by some order of magnitude lighter than the mild steel rear door on the D2...it took 3 of us an hour of grunting and swearing to fit that door...the damned thing weighed more than I did.
I ended up modding the new door with an after market gas ram from Devon 4x4 to stop the same thing happening again. I even left the free stickers on it...

If they're visible, they're bolt on ones. The electric deployable sidesteps aren't visible unless they're deployed (when you open the doors). The electric ones are really expensive and as far as I know, are only available as OE parts from Land Rover. Bolt on sidesteps are fairly cheap since there are a few top quality aftermarket options available from BritPart, Predator and others.
The aftermarket bolt on ones are half the price of OE ones from Land Rover and just as good. If you're looking to take them off for any reason, this video might help as it shows the location of all the bolts and brackets
