    Front brake pads

Hi. I need to replace my front brake pads and wear sensor.(rears were done recently). Does anyone have a guide as I've searched and can't find one. Thanks.

It's not as complicated as the rear pads since the EPB doesn't need to be put in service mode or anything too difficult mechanically. If you've ever replaced brake pads on any vehicle...it's exactly the same process on a D5.

Couldn't find a decent video for replacing front discs and pads on an L462...closest I could get was several videos for baby discos (sport) but the process isn't that dissimilar. I'm replacing my front and rear discs shortly...just waiting on the discs arriving... so I can't offer any pics or videos to help out as yet.

Baby Disco front brake video...it may help.

Thanks, Mole. Does a new sensor extinguish the in car warning or does the car need connecting to a computer?

Should do without resetting anything with a diagnostic tool...it's an on/off sensor reading so once the brake wear sensor is replaced (if it's damaged or worn) along with the pads, it should put the warning lamp out.

Did my front disks this morning. I noticed when I changed all the brake pads and wear sensors a few months ago that the old disks were Land Rover OE and quite badly grooved after 9 years of braking...replaced now with a set of EBC 360mm perforated and slotted disks. Will replace the back ones with the same perforated/slotted disks tomorrow...just so they match front and back. Cool

It depends which brakes you have.
If you have the 4-pot Brembo type, the whole calliper needs removing and you need about five hands to juggle everything while you fiddle with the slide pins. You should also replace the calliper bolts as they are technically single use only and need specific torque settings followed by the correct degrees of rotation.

I've got a collection of downloads from TOPIX here: https://1drv.ms/f/c/6066662e23950aa7/IgAYJ...c?e=pBmj2F

Many thanks for sharing those Topix subjects, Jon. They're an absolute boon and much appreciated. Thumbs Up

You have to remove the entire floating caliper and carrier bracket when replacing the disks regardless... Brembo brakes are a bit fiddly though, I'd certainly agree there having fitted 6 pot Brembo calipers on my Harley and wishing I hadn't bothered. Rolling Eyes

I replaced the carrier bracket bolts for new as par for course, all done up with a spot of Loctite and torqued up to spec. I re-greased the caliper slide pins again and checked the piston and slide pin seals...didn't change the pads since I replaced the OE ones with EBC pads (with new brake wear sensors) only a few months ago so they're practically new. I also power bled the entire braking system and replaced the fluid when I changed the pads.

The only reason I'm changing the disks is that the 9 years old OE ones were starting to show a fairly prominent lip at the outer and inner edges and were quite badly grooved across the entire surface area. Doubtful they'd have got through the next MOT in October without an advisory or a fail so they needed done. The EBC perforated disks were reasonably priced at £250 for the complete set front and rear so were a decent buy for a very mild overall braking improvement. I'm forever charging around off-road across muddy fields so the perforated and slotted disks suit those conditions a bit better.

My brakes are just standard MY2017 OE double pot caliper with 360mm front disks and not the Brembo 4 or 6 pot type with larger 365mm disks common on the younger models, so not much of a hassle. The main caliper carrier bolts were a bit of a swine to loosen off (and the locating screw on the disk) since they hadn't been off since the car was built, but apart from that, a fairly straight forward job.

Be keen to see how those EBC discs last i have ad two sets warp and have gone back to standard Ferodo and the brakes are better.

Aye, I was in 2 minds when I bought them.

Ferodo are usually my first choice for pads and disks, although I've used both EBC and Ferodo over the years, EBC seem to have sorted themselves out since the off-road crowd simply stopped buying them or using as a go-to option. I'll see how these ones last or perform on the D5...I gave the EBC perforated ones a chance on the D4 after defaulting to Ferodo for a while and they were faultless. They lasted well, no scrappy wear, warping or lips after a couple of years of use. The EBC pads are pretty good for wear and stopping power too.

Like I said, I'll see how these EBC perforated disks go...if they're not up to scratch for my use, I'll go back to Ferodo and never look back. Wink
