    Heavy steering

Before I go and blast the dealer about another software glitch ….

My steering feels variably heavy and a bit lumpy.

It feels ok when making a turn but returning the wheel seems heavy …..both directions.
There is a marked contrast in movement from finger tip to arm ache.

I also think the steering wheel is not perfectly horizontal ….leaning towards 11 o’clock on perfectly flat straight road. It’s only a fraction out but I am dam certain I would have noticed it before.

My question is…can steering lose positional calibration like other components ( eg like seats) Could it be getting the wrong signals from wheel turning?

The car hasn’t been driven anywhere since it had the seat calibration done until today. I mentioned on another thread that the technician said there had been glitches with the N877 security update , including “a steering issue”.

Before I go and read the riot act over this being yet another problem due to the update, I just wondered if there could be another reason ? To be clear it hasn’t hit any potholes, tyres are good, alignment was done 1month ago……I’ve driven it sense then locally with no obvious behavioural problems. But I’ve just don’t 200miles and it drives smoothly. But steering feels unpredictable. A couple of times I made a sharp pull out to overtake and needed more effort to bring it back straight, ending up over correcting….a bit unnerving till I started getting the new feel.

    Thoughts?

I had the same heavy steering fault. Turned out to be a rear wheel ABS sensor. Although I did have various warning lights illuminated on the dash - including ABS Fault message.

    No warnings showing.

The car is perfectly drivable, just a bit “different”.

In fact it’s reminiscent of when I towed with a D5 for the first time.
It felt then like the steering had a slight delay in responding causing me to oversteer. With a large trailer on the back it felt unstable due to my jerky steering. But we’ve “got to know each others mannerisms” over the last 6 years. Lol

Yesterday I went to overtake and it swung out further and faster than it normally does for my normal arm movement causing me to have to correct…then finding I had to use more force than expected to correct, than it did to move out.

Call it coincidental but since the software mucking about, this feels like the cars decided to change how it steers …..which makes me wonder if the steering module needs calibration (if that’s at all possible)

Think I will have to visit the dealer and face the inevitable argument. Life’s too short for all this!.
