Timing belt
Hi All,
The car is 8 years old, done 65,000 miles.
I guess I need to replace the timing belt.
Couple of questions:
It's the tdv6, does it only have one belt?
On previous cars I've always bought timing belt and water pump kits, is it a different setup on the disco 5, I can only see kits with one belt, 3 pulleys, no replacement bolts or water pump, which I had expected?
What brand belt is best?
What else should be changed at the same time?
Phil

It actually has two belts that need replacing.
One timing belt, and then one belt at the back for the HP fuel pump.
Note: on the 3L tdv6, the rear HPFP is also “timed”. It won’t kill the engine if not timed properly, but it won’t run as well as it should.
For make… I think mine was dayco.

Thanks for that Neb.
Should I be replacing the pump as well on the small belt, or anything else?

After saying that, it sounds pretty dumb to suggest replacing a HP fuel pump, don't know what came over me

No… pump isn’t replaced… just the belt.

Thanks.
Any other thoughts on jobs to be done at the same time?
Eg. How is the water pump driven?

When I had mine done I was recommended to replace the water pump as it is know to leak after a certain time and since you are taking most of this off anyway………

I replaced the water pump and the 2 main camshaft pulleys, the camshaft pulleys aren't really necessary but a pair only cost an extra £125 over the rest of the parts.
That's 3 belts (FP belt, main timing belt and auxiliary belt), a water pump and 2 camshaft pulleys. Besides the idlers and tensioner pulleys, that's about it for a timing belt replacement...

Thanks Mole.
Planning to get on it on Saturday.
Weather permitting.

Good luck Phil...I'll be replacing my OS front wheel bearing hub...and the back brake disks which I still haven't done thanks to the weather.
Once again...weather permitting.
