Land Rover Discovery 5 Help Needed

    Hello all,

I recently bought a Land Rover discovery 5 and it has been absolutely brilliant in fact we all love it however last week we got restricted performance.

Since then we have had it come and go. After a couple days engine management line came on.

Since then my friend has smoke tested from after air box for leaks in air inline and when plugging into snap on OBD we are getting the faults as shown. Here is the interesting part which I was hoping someone else may have had experience of this and can advise. When I put my foot down I am getting what sounds like a whooshing from the air vents (more so drivers side) which sounds like it’s controlled by the accelerator, as I push the accelerator it gets louder when I let off it quiets down. This does not happen in idle therefore thinking it’s a boost thing off the turbo. I have no black smoke so think turbo is all ok and intact. Wondering if a boost pipe or a waste gate issue could be the cause of my problems and if anyone has had similar? Only thing I find confusing is why it’s kicking up MAF sensor faults when it’s after that it’s happening if turbo boost pipe etc

If anyone can help that would be fantastic and much appreciated. I don’t mind looking at things or checking just trying to get an idea of where to start.

    Thanks in advance.

    Brad

Check your turbo hoses for any splits. They might look OK but if you squish them all over you may discover a split

Does sound like a boost leak. Classic symptoms.
look for any oily residue around engine bay around the inlet pipework. My leak was invisible until I squeezed the pipe, it gave itself away by the oil mist residue around the area.

Thanks for the support. Do you know the easiest way to check turbo hoses. I believe the turbos are situated at rear of engine.

Is it come from underneath taking off under floor or is it from the top engine bay?

It’s the 3L v6 which is believe I forgot to mention in my post. Apologies.

I have old eyes, I struggled to read those error codes in the pic you posted which doesn't help...

Besides the engine management light and the MAF DTC's on the diagnostics, are there any dash warnings like 'Turbo overboost' etc?

Yeah sorry didn’t think about how difficult it is to read the image. I have typed them in below if it helps.

Apart from engine management light and restricted performance we have had no other visual or worded warnings just the whoosh I talk of that is coming from the vents when pushing down accelerator,

    Thanks for offering support,

Codes do help most of the time. But a code is recorded by a sensor which in-turn has possible other items that could cause the fault. Let's say your issue is your turbo hose, this hose cannot give you a fault code. It will only be discovered checking manually. My split hose was 2 inches long and invisible until I squeezed it.
