    Hi Andy,
You can turn it off in the menu but it will only last until you start the car again.
Unfortunately the stop start defaults to always on every time the ignition is cycled.
The car can be configured to retain the last setting but this will need a GAP IID tool or similar that can edit the car configuration files.
If you do want to do this let me know and I’ll find the settings you need to change.
It was the first job I did when I got my D5.
    Hope this helps.

You can program the function of the "favourite " (diamond) button on the steering wheel to turn off stop-start. You'll still need to press it every journey, but it's just one button press.

Hi, yes I’m sure it can’t be good for the car and used to drive me mad if I forgot to disable it.
The details are here in this excellent post from Mole:

    https://disco5.co.uk/forum/thread4188.html

Certainly for the facelift cars you will need the current GAP tool as unfortunately the newer cars use a different protocol. Not sure about the earlier models.

    Thanks Baz.

The MY2017+ D5 needs the G4 version of the IID tool. The G3 version has limited functionality on a D5, the G2 version has even less. Not sure if you can upgrade the G2 version to the G4, I'd email GAP support and ask first. Currently, the IID tool doesn't cover MY2026 models.

I upgraded my IID tool from the G3 I bought for the Disco 4 to the G4 version via the GAP website. The upgrade costs £220 and involves you sending the G3 version back to GAP Diagnostics in Canada (postage is included in the cost), they then send you a new G4 version by return post.

The upgrade isn't cheap (cheaper than buying a new one)...but you get what you pay for with an IID tool, it does exactly what it says on the tin. I even bought a fancy schmancy hardshell case for mine. eBay link
...Custom designed, 3D printed to very high quality in ABS and sold by a D5 owner and forum member. You know you want one... Wink

The newest JLR vehicles (including the current D5 models) have locked down the CCF. Making even the Gen4 IID just a code reader on these vehicles.

    Quote:
For model year 2026, JLR implemented Secured Diagnostic in certain region including Europe and Australia. Functions are limited for these cars, CCF and Flashing for example cannot be used.

Just got this from gap , why would they want to exchange it
    If its absolute ??

    Hello

Your current tool is an IIDTool BT G2 which were discontinued years ago. In turn, it cannot be used on your D5.

We can offer an exchange for an IIDTool BT G4 at 600 CAD shipped.

$600CAD is roughly £320...which is still a couple of hundred quid less than buying a brand new IID tool at full price (£520). Gap have just added £100 to the cost of replacing a later, and still supported, G3 version rather than ask for full price.

To me, that's a pretty reasonable compromise considering the G2 was discontinued a fair while ago. GAP keep a customer, you get a fully functional G4 IID tool. Being a VIN locked tool, they're also giving a better value deal for your G2 than you could get selling it privately.

Don't get me wrong, as home mechanic tool purchases go...especially a VIN locked diagnostic tool... £320 is a hard swallow.

It's still a fair bit less than full price though...I was in a similar position when updating my G3 and being faced with £220 for the pleasure. Having used the IID tool as much as I did with the Disco 4 though, I bit the bullet and forked out.

Haven't had cause to regret it thus far.

I never owed a D4 ,had the d3 almost 14 year , the tool paid fir itself
Almost the first time I used it , gap are saying its absolutel
but I could always update it , clearly there's a lot more going on
around a d5 so I guess ill have to bite the bullet as I'm sure at
Some point im going to need it , no doubt it will save me a
    Load of money
    💰 Very Happy

Yup. Mechanically, a D5 isn't any more taxing than a D3 or a D4 to maintain at home...same Ford V6 engine, same 8 speed ZF gearbox... on the pre facelift versions anyway.

It's the electronic nonsense that makes a decent Land Rover specific OBD2 diagnostic tool an essential bit of your tool kit if you need to do more than reset the service interval on the dash. Thumbs Up

There are a couple of generic OBD2 diagnostic tools that come close to an IID tool for functionality on a D5...I also have an iCarsoft CR Max which does cover 95% of all the service and maintenance related tasks on my 2017 D5...plus, not being VIN locked or Land Rover specific, I can use it on the rest of the cars in our family. That retails at around £350, so not particularly cheap either.

As Land Rover specific tools go though, there's no beating the IID tool.

Yes as you say mechanically theres all the same almost, but the electronics are a mined field
The d3 was probably the best motor I ever owned. It never failed
to start and its never broke down in all the years I owned it , oils and filters
Every year at MOT regardless of mileage, 201k when I sold it ,
It took a while to pluck up the courage to advertise it as I really didn't
Want to sell it Big Cry
if the d5 treats me half as well as the d3 ill be happy enough only
    Time will tell Rolling Eyes
