Computer is 'optimisticly' programmed...
270 Miles of which 160m was motorway and 65/70mph, I've driven like granny for the most part.
Trip computer said 29.7 mpg
Fuel used said 26.14 mpg
The D5 has now covered 1,942 miles.
I don't think this is particularly good, at all.
I appreciate many people are comparing the D5 with their previous D3s & 4s after which this may not seem so bad, but if you're coming from a different brand 4x4, this is probably a bit of a howler.
On a run I used to get 23mpg from my '96 Tahoe on 33's. A near 3 tonne 5.7V8 built 21 yrs ago.
Touareg around 34mpg for the same mixed bag.
hmmmm.

I've done 120 miles since last fuel up and still have a range of 373. Trip computer saying 34.5 mph though that will drop today as I have a few short town drives.
One thing that doesn't bother me though is fuel efficiency, manufacturers figures mean nothing there is too many factors in real life driving that can't be replicated in the current tests.

The autocar road test in today's issue recorded a 26.3mpg average for. 3.0 V6......they're usually figures I'd trust more than anything else if I was looking for for comparison between cars.

I have a somewhat anal approach to recording fuel used/mileage driven. I will report in due course on the D5.
My 16MY D4 (with the added blue stuff) is the best of the four D3/4s I have had, but not my much over the first D3 with a manual gearbox. The 15k average of the latest D4, in the real world, was 28.2MPG.
Tests over short periods are really not so informative, for reasons already stated in this thread about real world conditions.
The onboard computer on the D3/4 was deliberately set to provide an optimistic reading, and I have no reason to assume that LR have not done the same with the D5. That optimisation can be calibrated in the CCF - if I recall it is set at 3% positive/optimistic. To achieve a real world equivalent, you'd need to adjust that to -7%.
The best tank fill to tank fill result I have achieved is 31.56MPG on the most recent D4, which was after it had done about 7,500 miles. It predecessor beat that on an individual tank full, but the average MPG was about 2mpg less over a very substantial number of miles.
If the D5 gets to 30+, then I will be content.

My X5 40d did 36mpg and was faster than the D5. The D5 does 28.6 but we're very happy with it overall so tend to forgive it.
When I'm not in the operating theatre, I'm mountain biking, spending time with my family, running and socialising. I have a Discovery 5 HSE Lux with pretty much every option ticked. This is my first ever Land Rover. Been a rocky road with regards to reliability but we're getting there.

I've done about 700 miles now. 3 litre engine
MPG so far
Car said I'd got 25.6 mpg actual 22.76 (towing large caravan)
Car indicated 35.2mpg actual 30.54mpg none motorway miles.
So about as accurate as the D4 in other words not very. However I think I am doing better mpg than the D4 so quite happy.

Now got 2500 on 2.0 L HSE.
Last 800 miles round trip Bradford to Aberdeenshire, M6 & M74 cruise @ 76 (indicated), 73 (GPS) plus fairly brisk driving off Mways.
In-Car display 34 mpg, actual fuel (brim to brim) 30.7 mpg.
I reckon this compares with about 29 - 30 mpg on in-car display in 12 plate D4 3.0 L.
I'm fairly happy, 2.0 L does have to work a little harder on M-way inclines (eg Beattock).

Having owned a few diesels, they don't really loosen up until after 10,000 miles/16,000kms so worrying too much in the early stages of ownership isn't warranted. I regularly achieve (as in tank after tank) 900-950 kms per tank (75-78 litres)in SD6 D4. When I think of the weight of the vehicle and it's sheer size and compare to all the previous vehicles I've owned/driven in last 43 years, I think this is amazing. I remember my dad had a Cotina Mk 2 1600 E, he very rarely achieved better than 25 mpg. My Escort XR 3i 1983 could barely manage 30 mpg. These we're lightweight vehicles compared to today and had far less power. On long runs, 5.5 l/ 100kms is achieved. I've had it down to 3.8 l/100kms on a return journey to work one night, 40kms each way, country roads. Changing gears manually is key. Much easier with flappy paddles!

Just done a trip down to Woking and back again (235 miles each way)
Tank was full before i set out and had cruise control set on 74mph (when the traffic and roadworks allowed)
Avg MPG on trip down was 37.6 and on the way back this was dragged down to 37.3 (more slow traffic on the way back)
Brimmed the tank again and has worked out as 34.8mpg for 482mile trip
This is about 4-5mpg better than i got with my MY13 D4 so very pleased with everything so far (now got 2,300 miles on the clock)

My experience of 2 x FFRR's 2 x Evoques and 3 x RRS's - all various diesels is that you cannot use the figures obtained in the first 3000 miles as accurate - all of my previous cars have shown a marked improvement at around 3000-3500 miles and then another improvement at around 9-10k miles. I don't know if the ECU makers program something in these days to protect engines but all of those cars had a similar staged improvement. The worst performer of the lot was the 9 speed Auto Evoque I had that at 9 months suffered a severe worsening of the consumption after a gearbox ECU software "upgrade" - the problem was traced to the DPF which then started to burn out sensors at the rate of one a week so I started monitoring DPF Sensors per week rather than mpg! Best car is my current RRS2 HSE Dynamic which regularly gets 40mpg in local A road driving but the TDV8 RRS was also always in the mid 30's mpg when everyone else seemed to struggle to get 28mpg. Maybe rarely driving in town helped.
