Dash cam's are getting quite popular these days. I quite like the idea but there's no way I'm littering up my car with stuff in the windscreen and the cables to power it.
We already have lots of cameras all around the car along with several USB sockets where huge amounts of storage could be connected.
So why did it not occur to anybody at land rover to give an option to have selected cameras record to attached storage?
I've always thought that a dash cam should be a standard factory fit TBH. I've had them in my last few cars and they are like gold dust if you have a prang (and its not your fault!).
Saved my no claims bonus twice!
There are loads around at the moment, but I always go for the FineVU make. These are a japanese company who make really good dash cams. Not the cheapest, but they come with 1080p cameras, parking standby options and loads more. Normally have to get them via Ebay as I don't think anyone in the UK sell them.
I've installed mine just behind the rear view mirror (not obscuring anything). You can hardly see it.
There is a thread on dash cams under "In car Technology ". Depending on what power supply needed i.e. switched or perminant the fuse numbers are givern. Also fuse type. Hope this helps.
Heres a few pictures on the installation. I got the FineVU HD Pro.
Its small and fits behind the rear view mirror. I managed to use a couple of the very small clips to secure the wire along the A pillar and down behind the rubber seal of the door.
The only time you see it is when it comes out and plugs into the 12V supply (in the other picture)
