    GardX

    Hi,

I ordered a HSE over the weekend and said yes to the GardX protection (internal & external) at £725 minus some discount (I negotiated at that point, so say a £500 cost to me).

Was I being ripped off? Should I cancel it?!

I can't find any particularly positive reviews - gut feeling is it's there for dealer's commission...

    Thanks!

Use a local specialist, they will use a better system and take better care of your car.

I had GardX on my 1st Evoque. It was applied at the UK HQ for Gardx and in 2011 cost me £300 for the interior and exterior protection. It is by far the most impressive protection system I have paid extra for on a new car, after 3 years water was still beading off the paint. I have just had my RRS detailed using GTechnic Crystal Serum 2.5years after the car was delivered after Autoglym Lifeshine Protection that was no longer effective. I would say that you have been robbed on the price, take the car to a specialist retailer - 2 weeks ago it cost me £600 for the full interior and exterior detail of my RRS that took 4 days to do and included rectification of bramble rash/ car park scratches and a couple of paint blemishes that the car was delivered with and the dealer said that the car would have to have a respray to fix...........

I have a suspicion that many dealers take your money, give you a piece of paper that says your car has been treated but then let their own prepping team loose with just soap, water and a pressure washer and bank your £700 after doing nothing. Just take a look on e-bay to see how cheaply you can buy these paint protection systems - where can the sellers get their products so cheaply.......... not from the suppliers of the systems that’s for sure.

I had Cilajet put on mine, mostly because of our intense sunlight at altitude and lots of road salt and dirt. My dealer had several certified pre-owned cars they claimed had Cilajet applied, and the paint looked like new.

It's basically just another clear coat, with a 5-year guarantee. So far, it does seem to resist water spotting and bird droppings very well. Doesn't add any depth or take away from the Silicon Silver paint on mine, just seems to clean easier.

This system is much cheaper than applying a protective film. I have been looking into clear films but 2 companies quoted £3000 and £4000 plus VAT for a full car wrap. There are incrimental levels of protection available (bumper and mirrors, bumper, mirrors and bonnet, whoile front end) but still really expensive in my opinion.

I also had the front bumper and quarter panel up to the wheel wells, first 10" of the hood, and side mirrors wrapped in a clear wrap - in winter they also drop gravel and sand for traction, and it gets kicked up all the time. It's so bad that you need a new windshield about every 2 years whether it's cracked or not - it will look like glitter all over the windshield in sunlight and is very distracting. Anyway, those surfaces need extra paint protection - an extra clear coat doesn't help.

I would have liked a matte wrap option from LR, but it would obscure the amazing depth that the premium metallic paints have.

Thanks very much for the replies - I ended up cancelling it, but adding the HUD - the 18MY one looks much better than the 17 that I remember...

    Hi Underwood,

Could you let me know what differences you see in the MY18 HUD compared to MY17?

I am thinking of getting the Technology plus pack which comes with HUD.

It's a good few months since I saw the MY17 one - but I seem to remember that being all orange and pixelated.

This is very (too?) bright, white, and crystal clear.

My dealership had a velar in which has the same HUD (apparently), so I looked at it there...

(And also totally loved the digital-dash - hope the discovery's is the same as velar's one)

Thanks Underwood for letting me know, let’s hope the MY18 comes with the sharper HUD.

I believe the HUD also displays Sat Nav directions and caller details as well, does it display anything else?

They said it displays media info too, but couldn't see it.

I saw the current speed limit, current speed, and current gear - couldn't see anything else while sat in the forecourt.
