SIM vs Phone hotspot...
I have searched and still a bit confused....
Does inserting a SIM add anything different to using the phone as a hotspot connected to the vehicle ?
Other than having to always activate the hotspot connection each time I get in....
Answers on a postcard (or here, preferably
) before I go out and give more money to post.lu

The only obvious/useful differences I have noted with a data SIM inserted in the car are that the satnav is more ‘alive’ to traffic congestion, there are news updates and the search features are all online. I still need to check out if the car is supposed to be 4G as we only seem to be getting the 3G service.

All of my features and functions work fine via phone hotspot. The only drawback is that in canyons or deep rural areas, I may lose 4G connectivity via my phone before I lose 3G connectivity via the vehicle SIM.

Well I decided to get a data SIM. All fine...but says 3G. No idea if that’s the data SIM or if 4G didn’t make the MY18 spec over here. Either way not much I can do about that and I think 3G will be ok for the use

I use it only for the remote preheater start via app and Navi works way better with the Sim card installed. Really no difference 3G or 4G if you don't make a Hotspot in your car, I don't need it as we all have our own phones in family. It consumes less than 500 MB per MONTH in my case.
