Interesting - the 300bhp 3.0d is £2700 more than 240 bhp 2.0d. The previous 3.0d was I think £1,500 more than the 2.0d. So 40-50bhp for an extra £1,200

You’re paying for an extra turbo and pipe work etc. What’s £1k when you’re paying £60k+ anyway?

I'd imagine a 3.0 300BHP would feel a lot different to the 2.0 240BHP.

I have the 240 in the Velar but test drove the 300 but other than smoothness and not sounding as rough it didn’t feel any quicker of the mark.

I wouldn't imagine there is a great deal of difference off the mark, but what is it like in gear / under load,i'd imagine the pick up is more progressive, swifter and stronger.

I'd really like to see a Hybrid D5 soon, it would sell.

They have a hybrid FFRR and RRS (P400, 2.0 300 PS engine with additional 100 PS from electric). That seems to be a ‘sports’ package, it would be interesting to get either that (replacing Si6) or an economy version to keep the MPG down below that of the 300PS TDV6.

Thats what i was thinking DiscoStu
We are actually hovering over a FFRR P400e order for SWMBO at the moment, had a test drive it had a fair bit of poke. I would say the blending of the EV to ICE power was not quite as smooth as Volvos but I wasn't driving lightly on the 30mins i had with it. If they did a D5 I'd probably have that over the FFRR for her and run it alongside the D4.

I was speaking to a guy from jaguar a few weeks ago when he was with the iPace touring various places (this was at the Trafford centre). I was saying I would rather have a LR electric car than jaguar. He said that the discovery is proving very difficult due to the weight of the end product - the more batteries you put in the heavier it is so you need to put more batteries in so... etc. If I understood him correctly, there won’t be a plug in discovery any time soon. Shame

I would have assumed the FFRR is just as heavy as the D5, if not heavier

That’s what he said but yes what you at is a good point - I wonder if it is more to do with the loss of the third row of seats (as in the leccy Audi Q7) and or towing and or full size spare wheel. The Volvo XC90 T8 is the only plug in seven seater I think - and they only managed it because the rear wheels sarenikoy driven by electric and the freed up transmission tunnel space is used for the batteries. Don’t you lose the full size spare on the plug in RR / RRS? Maybe they think it would be too much of a compromise to do that with the discovery?
