It’s a tyre only , to be honest I dragged my heels in getting a fifth wheel but agree with Rangers comments about getting it on the roof I have a ladder and reckoned standing on line rack and hauling the wheel and tree up may be a better option. Academic at the moment of course until I get another wheel. The jerry can is easy I just get the cooler out of the back and stand on that.

I am having to resize pictures so will get a few more up as imge chance. Today was a rest day spent around Goose Bay. Not that I needed a rest day but poor planning on my part has meant that the wife schedule would have meant I would be way to early on the trip so I put the brakes on a little.

Anyway 1800 km in and I am enjoying every minute . The sat nav works, sat radio works and once I reach somewhere with cell signal the remote app adds the routes so I can look at fuel consumption

So far average has been 7.9/100km

Camping has been a bit hit or miss, this one was just off the road near Churchill Falls at a construction camp that was not in use

Yes, lifting just a tire would be much easier!

I've bookmarked this and added it to my wish list:

Might even improve the rear end 😀

Would also free the food for a tent, food for though

With all that fantastic scenery around it looks like you was very lucky to find that campsite.

So back to the trip, Hydro Quebec has several hydro electric plants along the Manicougan River. The largest is Manic 5

The dam is actually the Barrage Daniel Johnson the road turns to gravel at this point . The reservoir formed by the dam partially fills the Manicougan impact crater, one of the largest so far found

The road exists because of hydro and mining, although processed iron ore is taken out by rail to the port of Sept Isle on the Gulf of St Laurence

Back to cell service so the last few from a most memorable first part of the trip

This was once the site of a mining town, Gannon. Once the mine was closed the entire twin was demolished leaving only this Goshtly Main Street in the middle of a stretch of gravel road.

The Churchill river, almost dry since the hydro plant was built

Local traffic has right of way

Typical stretch of gravel on a busy Saturday

Back in 2013 the last 130 km to Red Bay looked like this

It has now been paved , I was a little disappointed at first but then soon realized that I could look at the scenery rather than concentrate 100% on the road surface

Finally back home after three weeks on the road. I covered about 8000 km , about 4970 miles.

3000 km was on the trip from western Quebec upto Route 389 and the TransLabrador highway with a few detours. 1530 was the leg from Nova Scotia back home. The rest was a two week meander around Newfoundland with swmbo after I picked up from Deer Lake airport.

Problems, none! Did I need the spare tyre or jack, no. Did I need the extra fuel, no. You can bet if I had not taken the “extras,” I would have need them. On reflection did I see anyone who had stopped for a puncture or other breakdown, no.

Would I do it again, yes probably in the opposite direction and would maybe take longer over the journey.

Anyway here is a breakdown of the TLH part of the trip

Day 1 home to Manic 2. 1127 km
Day 2 Manic 2 to Labrador City 574km
Day 3 Lab to east of Churchill Falls, wilderness camping 327 km
Day 4 to Goose Bay 269 km
Day 5 day off! 96 km up to West River
Day 6 Goose to L Anse au Claire 645 km
Day 7 to the Blanc Sablon Ferry. 8 km. Job done ✅

End of the journey in Blanc Sablon

It’s windy here they even lash the portable bog down!

I finally got around to editing the various film clips and still together, never tried this before so the results are a little unpolished. It will likely take me another week to assemble the next 15 minute clip!
