    WIFI identification on home network

    Checking my home network I noticed a device I didn't recognise (I name them all logically and give them specific IP addresses) so I blocked it from connecting via MAC address. It never used much data so that's not the issue, I just don't want a freeloader. The WIFI is WPA2 protected. I'm now trying to figure out what it was, and one possibility is the car connecting to WIFI at home. Whatever it is, it must be in or close to the house as it will reconnect.

    When you check out the devices on your network with the Discovery connected, is the MAC address for the Discovery linked to LG or FN-LINK ? Or neither?

    You would have to have the hot spot broadcasting out for your home wifi to pick it up ...check if it's active by going into settings - features - connectivity ,,,,on ...off ,,,from this you could eliminate it from your home network Thumbs Up

    As I blocked the rogue device, I just went to the car to see if it still connects - which it did. The MAC address the car uses is from vendor LG Electronics.

    The network SSID is broadcast on the theory that if you don't you'd have something to hide and hackers might be more likely to want to connect. It is still password protected and is not a "guessable" one.

    So yes there was some Android device out there freeloading. Not any more though Smile

    It's the other way around, from the car you connect it my home WIFI network. As I don't have a data SIM in the car the hotspot would probably not work.

    Ah yes I see what you mean now ...you weren't 'connected' it was just seeing it while the car is awake Smile

    And I have now figured out what that device was too, as I was no longer able to open my garage door from my phone Rolling with laughter

    Device access enabled again....

    Just beware if your garage door starts buying things on Amazon and/or hosting internet porn sites.... Shocked

    There are tools that allow people to spoof devices such as those....
