    getting scratches off gloss black plastic

    Guys

    Me and a hedge got a up close and personal - so now I have a load on marks on the black gloss plastic trim down the side on the windscreen, and also across the gloss black trim between the drivers front and rear door windows - what should I be looking at to polish these out without afecting the gloss finish?

    Al frade you are up against it there
    They are very soft and easily marked best thing is a good quality polish and good clean micro fibber cloth and patients

    I have scratched scratched mine twice now, on the passenger side the 2 panels next to each other on the doors. One was replaced, a few weeks later after a massive storm later touched a branch sticking out into the road and back to square one. They aren't overly expensive so I will just replace them when the scratches get too bad.

    Meguiars Plastx will get rid of them. I saw another owner having the same issue, the before and after images were awesome.

    Hi

    My first post on this site but I did post on the D3 site. Finally got over the rear end of the D5 and put a deposit down.

    I second the Meguiars Plastx but it is hard work so lots of elbow grease will be required. Results will be better if you can get your hands on an electric DA polisher. If the scratches are too deep no amount of polishing will get them out.

    Unless you coat them with something (no idea what) they’ll scratch again very quickly. The plastic is so soft it seemingly picks up hairline scratches simply from the passing airflow.

    You’ll forever be polishing the darn things.

    If you manage to get your scratches out you could use Helicopter tape to protect the trim, can be a bit fiddly to aplie on 1st use but when your use to it you’d be amazed where you can use it. And it comes off leaving no marks or residue Thumbs Up

    I spoke to Meguiars and they said not to use Plastx for gloss black but to use their Ulitmate Compound. I ordered some yesterday, so hopefully will give it a go at the weekend.

    look forward to hearing how it goes, I have several scratches on the centre console that it would be good to try to polish out....
    2023 D300 Metropolitan, Hakuba Silver, Low Range, Solar screen, Deployable towbar, FBH, sidesteps.

    Unless you get a ceramic coating applied your going to have issues.

    My detailer advised me that the best thing to do is to get the black gloss bits vinyl wrapped as a long term solution.

    well - Maguires Ultiamte Compound worked a treat, all but the deepest have gone, and even the deepest is now much less obvious.
