    Towing electrics

I did my first tow in the D5 on Saturday. I had to use a 12N -> 13 pin adapter and am not sure the car "recognised" that a trailer was connected. The lights all worked, but the reversing indicators were surprised a trailer was so close behind and still showed the yellow parking lines - I assume these should automatically be switched off? Also, the trailer light check button did not do anything.

I can't see anything particularly useful in the manual, but I may have missed it. Any pointers?

    Hi,
I dont think the plug adapter should make any difference, we use a 13 pin to a N&S plug adp on the RRS and that works fine

    Thumbs Up

How should the reversing sensors and reversing camera behave when a trailer is attached?

Rear sensors turn off. Camera can be on all the time. In hitch mode it does the track line and auto zoom

OK, thanks. As I thought. For some reason the rear sensors did not turn off. Is there supposed to be an audible or visual cue when the indicators are on too?

For indicators, just that silly green trailer thing on the dash when you have the turn signals on.

OK thanks. Thought so. None of that was working.

Needs coding by the sounds of it.

I got my local’ish dealership to supply and fit a detachable tow bar and electrics for roughly £750.

Deployable towbar was factory fitted so should be coded. Maybe I'll give LR assistance a call.

The plot thickens. Be interesting to see what’s wrong tbh.

By any chance does your trailer have LED trailer lamps specifically the DI and Stop lamps LED bulbs? If the parking sensors did not turn off it sound like the car did not 'detect' the trailer. This could happen if the lights on the trailer dont draw enough current as the trailer detection works by detecting how much current the DI and Stop lamps take.

Did you try the trailer light test function under the correct conditions:

First off what are you towing
    Secondly does it have LED's

LED's cause the same issues as you have said and need somthing extra load wise to fool the electricery on a D5. With my caravan I have a box that fits into the carvan wiring to trick the car into believing the trailer is attached (in my case caravan)

Namib Orange 1st Edition with black roof and wheels.
Privacy, tow bar, drive pack, surround camera, heated front & rear seats, auto dim door mirrors, side steps, remote Pro, RSE, arm rest fridge dash cam front and rear.

I tow a cattle trailer daily with my D5, LED lights all round never had a problem
Unlike my Toyota pick up , the LEDs don’t generate enough power on the indicators for the trailer inductor to flash in the dash,
