SIM card
I am wanting to add a SIM card to the car, primarily for live traffic info, as we already have iPhones for other communications. I realise I can use one of them as a personal hotspot and (presumably?) get the same live updates, but wondered if there was a cheap data sim with data rollover that would do the same without over taxing the phone?
What do you guys do?

Thanks for that.

Does it work just as well to use your own phone sim, or is that a pain?

Should work fine for data in the car, but you wouldn't be able to make or receive calls and would have to keep swapping the SIM between phone and car.
You also wouldn't be able to use any of the remote functions from the apps on your phone (unless you connect to a WiFi hotspot).

Cheers jonm, sounds like I need to get a dedicated sim then. Shame, as I have a 60gb monthly allowance that I rarely use more than half of!

There’s an option to use your phone as a personal hotspot. (All settings> connectivity)
Worked on my iPhone ....but I only have 4gb /month data and don’t want to use it up in car.

I use a cheapo Three SIm that you just insert and it works, vaguely remember a post saying that another network SIM ( EE? ) needed to be enabled in a phone first.

Michael - check any documentation you got with the sim. Some need registering first.
For example, the one I had said you had to insert sim in car, turn on car hotspot, connect your phone to the hotspot by wifi, then visit the suppliers site to register. Worked fine then.
A different supplier had me creating an account online with them prior to inserting sim.
(I am assuming you have purchased a mobile data sim).

My last SIM was EE. I had to call them to get it activated before it would work. If you have a phone that you can put it in you can activate it yourself but the device has to be able to receive text messages to create a log in (which the car cannot receive).
