BMW X5 or Audi Q7 ??
Oh well looks like am sadly leaving the fold guys after the horrendous way LR have treated me. Just away too visit the BMW and Audi garages too see if either can get me a new car before April 1st. I wish you guys all the best in the future with your new purchases and I will miss the friendly banter on here as made several good friends. Thanks and take care. BEEP BEEP!!! 😬

I'm feeling the same RR and I have not been waiting half as long as you or had the promises made as such. So one minute I want to ring and cancel but then I think is it going to hurt them and its not. So I would end up with a car I didn't really want to save £1k over 5 years. I would work on some sweeteners thrown in. Or just enjoying the car when you get it. I'm sure they have problems and are not doing it just to
you off. -

If the £1k is a deal breaker then why are you spending £60k plus on a car? Seems a drop in the ocean in comparison. The best bit is I'm spending £500/yr on my 2012 D4 every year and tend to keep my cars 8 years plus. I look forward to the 6th yr when I only spend £140 /yr on the next car.

The X5 is a great car, either the 30d or the 40d. The 50d is a bit of an overkill I think, it's a bit gruff and the 40d is a great mix of power and fuel efficiency.
I miss some bits from the X5 to be fair. The main reason we went for the Discovery was for our annual trip to Switzerland for skiing and I really wanted some 4x4 ability for those conditions. I ordered the locking rear diff and I will fit winter tyres for the season.
If I wasn't going to be making those trips I would have probably stayed with the X5.

Well the Audi is a big car, but am not too keen on the shape plus i did not think it was as good to drive as the D5 or the BMW.
I much prefer the BMWs shape and i preferred the driving position as well. The BMWs drive was not as good as the D5s in my opinion either.
It all depends on my wife if she likes it so will test drive it again on Sat.
I managed to get a black X5 and will be registered on March 31 st, albeit delivery may be a day later.
Am gutted though as had Landrovers for 25 years.
I remember when the BMW X5 originally came out, i was thinking that you must be crazy too buy that as its not a Proper Off Roader, but just merely a driveway trophy, but now look whats happened. Gutted!!! LR have forced me between a rock and brick wall.

Thanks Teemo. Yes I have been an Audi fan since my quattro days, but never had a q5 or q7 before. My collegue at work has had 2 q5s and swears by them. Mind you the saloons which they are charging £60k for look so bland and basic on the outside, you would be forgiven for thinking that it looks like a £30k car. At least the D5 looks expensive though
Looks like I have gone for the BMW X5. Looks wise alot easier on the eye than the Audi. I just need my wife too test drive it as she was working today. So Saturday should seal the deal. Thanks LR you have lost a customer for life now -

Having seen and been in current X5's, I had wondered about the logic that would mean that someone who is sufficiently clever and successful to be able to afford one would actually choose to buy one. From the lack of interior space and off road capability, to the hideously expensive, yet essential for resale, options (such as adequate suspension upgrades and "comfort", as opposed to "agony" seats) and the need to lock horns, from time to time, with BMW Customer "Service", there had to be a good reason; it's to save paying an additional £1,000 in road tax over 5 years.
I'll just assume that the Audi isn't a serious option and it's just there as a way of venting frustration!
I understand your delivery date annoyance with LR, but is this really the answer? -

sorry but you don't have a clue what I have been put through, and had too deal with, hence only then will you realise how i am feeling. Am not one for spitting the dummy out the pram as my posts probably suggest, but I assure you am not like that. Am just making a point, as people seem too be scared too voice an honest opinion nowadays and hide behind the pc 💻 instead. 25 years brand loyalty and I feel I have been treated like

Well am of the same mindset as you, LR has the renouned pedigree world wide. Having been lucky too own them for 25 years is saying something about the brand. It's a testament to their credentials too say the least. I have also driven half way around the world in one tackling all sorts of terrain en route and probably had alot more experience than alot of people on the forum, so I think i am more than qualified too give an honest opinion of the brand and TBH I can't fault the brand. Absolutely brilliant world leading class of 4x4 that no one can touch with a barge pole in my opinion, or replicate no matter how much they try, plus if it's good enough for the Queen then it's good enough for me.
However as much as I think Audi and BMW are excellent saloon cars they dont have the credentials or 4x4 experience that LR have. Also they both feel like cars when driving, not a 4x4. No locking diffs high low ratio gears etc. Although Audi have had lots of quattro experience I feel both 4x4s are road versions of their cars on stilts. Both won't cut it offroad or when towing like LR does. Likewise Porsche, never been a car fan let alone a 4x4 fan. Pointless car if you ask me. Just seems all the manufacturers are jumping on the bandwagon with substandard mickey mouse part time 4x2 nonsense cars at half the price, and trying too pass them of as proper 4X4s, and unfortunately alot of people think they are getting a proper 4X4 when infact they are not. These cheaper imitations are trying too compete with the KING OF OFFROADERS, but will never succeed. You pay for quality and you get what you pay for. Buy cheap you buy twice or thrice, costing you even more in the first place. Anyhow like yourself I have questioned why people would buy either as for a few grand more can buy the Real Macoy. Need too have there heads read I used too think as I would never settled for silver if I could get gold instead. However I have been thinking that maybe the BMW is a panic / impulse buy and what if it doesn't cut the mustard so too speak. Maybe I need my head read after all. It all boils down too my Mrs test drive. Anyway apart from LR all I have ever owned permanent AWD wise are Subarus. In my honest opinion it's the most reliable brand I have ever had plus it has the rally heritage also. Bomb proof engines with a 5 year warranty. Has got me thinking maybe I won't shell out 60k for an X5 but only pay 30k for a Forester instead. Makes sense as I suppose I have owned Subarus for 25 years also, plus they bend over backwards too keep the customers happy throwing in plenty of goodies (3k worth free last time) unlike LR who over the years have become so much grippier. Anyhow I will sleep on it Cheers 👍
