Never heard of it.
Are you out of warranty?

Strangely Warranty Direct will cover DPF is under 70k miles and it fails an emissions test, whereas the LR extended warranty won’t.
Swings and roundabouts.
Good luck with the garage.

Does it go into 'limp' mode when it happens? Split turbo hose?

Update
Took the car to StoneLake of Halifax an independent LR specialist on Tuesday, I told him that the car was on red DPF Full warning and there was a fault code Turbo over boost !
He rang me Wednesday am to say the car was done, on collection he said he had replaced the throttle body which was sticking open which was giving the turbo overboost fault which in turn was preventing the DPF regeneration !
He then did a full DPF Regeneration to get rid of the other warning.
Says the throttle body fault is very common and LR have changed the design now to overcome this issue ! The video he showed me shows the flap stuck against the body housing and you can hear the motor struggling to close it
All done on LR Extended warranty so happy days

I think the acid test is do you know if the car has since done an automatic regen?
Until that happens I wouldn’t be confident the problem is sorted.
This is because I have had the same faults. The stuck butterfly and the actual problem is a defective exhaust gas sensor.

Hey Guys,
I have this same error P0234 overboost condition. Comes and goes. I was told that the diesel engines didn't have a throttle body and that it was automatic. So if there actually is a TB can someone post a pic of its location? Had the same issue with my 4.4 disco 3 but the TB was well documented here on cleaning.
Thanks

I had the dealer show me where it was as I too thought diesels didn’t have throttle bodies. Modern ones do as part of the EGR system.
On the v6 diesel it’s directly under the engine cover (just pops off with a firm pull upwards). It’s central and has the large diameter air intake hose going into it.

Just been diagnosed with the same issue (both over and under boost).
Parts + labour from dealer are north of £600 and apparently needs coding and or forced re-gen.
Going to pick one up online and fit it myself as it's fairly easy to get to.

Those of you with the TDV6 engine who have had this problem - how do you use the vehicle? Lots of motorway cruising? Lots of around town? Hard off-roading? Random?
when you got the code - had there been anything noticeable in the several drives prior - lack of pickup, terrible fuel economy? Noises?
I'm at 52k and she's purring like a kitten. So far my 2017 HSE Td6 has been one of the most reliable vehicles I've had...knock wood.

My 2018 2.0l has been developing the same problems. Turbo overboost on short drives and turbo overhearing warnings on long drives. Then recently the frequency increased until i lost power usually within a few km from home.
Landrover dealer is still thinking about it as their computer didn’t give an answer.
Took it to my local garage; guys passionate for fixing things. We went through the history and took the car on a testdrive. Together we came to the conclusion that the low rev turbo was faulty.
They ordered a new one and got going. Turns out the the small turbo had play in the housing resulting the blades getting stuck in the housing. Clear damage inside.
Also found way too much play in the main so a new one has been ordered as well.
We’ll also install a new intercooler to make sure potential debris won’t reach the engine. Compression is ok and visual inspection looks good. Think i dogged a bullet here. Thank god for mechanics that can think beyond the ecu readout

Just before fitting the new turbo’s we decided to really do a good check. Then we found iron/aluminium particles in the exhaust manifold.
We checked with some specialist and it looks like piston rings have been eating into the cylinderliner. Apparently a known problem. The new turbo’s would have been damaged again within hours.
It is also very expensive to rebuild these engines we found so i had to order a new engine. 68k km on the existing engine. Landrover is very sorry but cannot do anything on the price or consider warranty.
Very happy to sell a new engine though.
I love the Disco5 but this is a hard one to swallow. €12k costs. Phfff. At least we saves €3k on another turbo set and €3k on labor for going own garage rather than dealer.
