    Smart key issues

    Hi All,

I’m a relative newbie on the forum but been lurking for a while. Thanks for all the random advice and tips I’ve picked up from the combined wisdom on here.

I seem to have been struck by the key fob issues. I’ve had various “smart key not recognised” messages in the past that prevents the engine starting but always remedied by locking and unlocking from the fob. However, now one of the fobs has stopped doing anything (locking/unlocking the doors or starting the car). I have replaced the battery and it is still totally unresponsive.

If I hold the fob to the steering column on the ‘three gills’ then the car will sometimes start. (Though it still won’t lock/unlock the doors.

2020 model HSE. The other fob is currently working.

Is there a way to reset the fob? (I believe with a D3, holding the lock button and pressing the unlock on the fob thee times did some sort of reset). Don’t know if this would work anyway but thought it might be worth trying.

    Any other suggestions ?

I'd try another battery and clean the battery contacts as the first thing. What you've described are the same signs as a flat battery. It's not impossible that you've put a new dud battery in or have dirty contacts.

If that doesn't work then it's off to the dealer's for a warranty fix. Don't mess around with anything which might invalidate the warranty.
