    Bonnet won't release

Just bought a 2017 D5, the release handle would only just pop the bonnet with a very hard tug once at full rotation of the handle, but now it wont open at all. Either snapped or just over stretched and so is there a trick to open the bonnet or how can I get the handle/panel off to get to end of cable .
    Thanks

The bonnet release handle simply levers off, use blunt preferably plastic trim tools to prevent marking the kick panel.
Remove the sill cover panel the same way, this will expose the m6 bolt securing the kick panel.
Remove the panel under the glove box secured with three screws 7mm socket required.
Pull back the door seal and remove the m6 bolt and pull the kick panel backwards towards the passenger seat exposing the bonnet pull mechanism.

Thanks for the reply, I gave up though and sent it to my indy to have a look. He was unable to get the handle off as I had also been. Looks like previous owner has glued it on ! maybe it kept coming off, but he must have been a dab hand with super glue as I today removed what was left of a badly aligned set of bonnet letters only to find the Y had been stuck back on with super glue ! Took me about 2hrs with a heat gun and goo gone to get the glue residue off !
Anyway my indy managed to fix the stretched cable from the bonnet end by fitting spacers, fingers crossed it holds as will probably have to break the handle off if it doesn't work

I had exactly the same issue on mine, I was told that the cable had stretched and needed replacing, however a liberal dose of WD40 on the release catches under the bonnet has solved this issue and bonnet opens perfectly every time. As a regular maintenance requirement this is an inexpensive solution.

Likewise, had to get mine replaced but was under warranty. Known problem, fairly common.

    Replacement how to

I have this issue. Anyone know how to replace the cable? My cars not under warranty and I try to do most fixes myself.

A couple of spacers like your Indy fitted is the cheaper and less stressful way of repairing a stretched bonnet release cable, regardless of the make or model of car...they're always a pain to replace Neutral

Yeah... i've not had the best luck with indy or dealerships when it comes to Land Rovers. My last car (disco 3) all bar one refused to work on Crying or Very sad This car that I have now (disco 5 early 2018) I fixed after it was flood damaged due to the windshield issue, so i'm expecting a lot of push back again Mad

I ended up doing it myself, it's not too bad, i had to remove an ECU under the bonnet on the passenger side (left hand side) which was the most difficult bit, but everything else was pretty quick.

Besides the electronics... which I'm still playing catch up on...my basic Land Rover spannering skills are over 25 years out of date since I worked for the largest 4X4 hire company in the UK as a mobile fitter.

But...someone managed to start a war in the middle east in 1990 when the ink still hadn't dried on my freshly signed reserve commitment so I had to pop off and sort that out...which ended up with me hanging around for another 14 years in the army after that escapade... and other randomly occurring bunfights that kept me busy... until Terry Taliban had quite enough of my nonsense and finally blew me up Rolling Eyes

I still like keeping my spanners oily though, especially since I've now officially 'retired' as a farmer, I've got more time to faff around working on my motorbikes and stuff.

I genuinely enjoy being hands on with my own Land Rovers, my old D2's and the D4 had enough of my blood soaked into them over the years they could have been relatives....at the end of the day, the old mechanical skills and experience are always going to be relevant, especially when you can brush past most of the electronic trickeries with a GAP IID tool...

As a Land Rover owner, there's nothing more satisfying than stepping back after you've tackled a mechanical repair on your own vehicle, no matter how big or small, and thinking,

    "I did that." Wink
