TPMS ( tyre pressure monitoring system )

Can somebody advise please, the TPMS system on my car is constantly set to light load and I understand this can be altered. I’ve read the online manual and not surprisingly, confusion reigns as I don’t understand geek speak nor techno terminology.

Anybody know how to do this please? ( plain English will be fine )

It looks a tiny bit different depending on whether you have analogue dials or a full digital display, but this video should help (found on YouTube):

To be fair, once you know where the setting is, it's dead easy, and something I always do before & after family holidays, when were' travelling four up, and laden to the rafters with luggage.

Beat me to it JK Wink

Mine is the same as the vid...but it's basically vehicle info, tyre info, TPM settings and tyre pressures settings on the centre dash menu.

    Nice one, thanks very much.
Does adjusting this setting also configure the cars settings slightly differently by compensating the suspension or handling characteristics or is that not effected?

Sorry to be so anal about this but I’m trying to get to understand this car and it’s currently fighting me off but I think it’s mostly user error and not understanding how it works + operates.

The TPMS system doesn't, no. It only monitors tyre pressures and displays a centre dash warning if one or more tyres drop below a set level, usually 30psi (2.7 bar). If a tyre has a puncture or is losing air, it'll tell you 'Front Left tyre low pressure' etc. Handy if you pick up a nail in a tyre or something.

However...being a posh Land Rover with electrickety magic, the ride handling and suspension is handled by computer so there's very little button pressing or knob fiddling required Mr. Green

I usually ignore the 'recommended' TPM settings and just fire in 40psi all round...seems to suit the tyres, my own preference and the ride handling just fine. I'm dragging trailers about a bit though, as well as occasionally shoving heavy stuff in the boot, like my tool box, so having the 40psi all round does for everything road wise, loaded or unloaded.

The only time I change that is for off-road, dropping it down to 26psi all round...but I've got an ARB compressor fitted so I can pump the tyres back up to road pressures once I'm done chasing cows around muddy fields. I get the TPMS warning but just ignore it.

The best way to view the TPMS thing is to use it as a guide...not a hard rule that must be adhered to. It's handy for detecting slow punctures and the like...but besides the information side of things being handily displayed on the dash, I rarely pay attention to it.

    Thanks Moley.
I always used to load the D4 tyres to 40 psi too, the ride was just right. I’ve tried 40 psi all round on the D5 and it seems happy but oddly, the app tells me the right rear is low, the dash feature tells me it isn’t and my trusty pressure gauge confirms all is good too.
Bit odd that the app is sketchy but hey ho.

Keeping an eye on it the old fashioned way with a tyre pressure gauge will do just fine if it's just the phone app chucking out weirdness. Thumbs Up

My spare keeps telling me it’s low…….unwind it and the b***er is 40psi…just like I left it!!

Indi tried to clear it unsuccessfully. Cannot be bothered changing the sensor….assuming that’s what is wrong

One of my sensors (Rear right) occasionally gave out erroneous readings...just every now and then... but I managed to clear it with my IID tool last time it happened and so far, it hasn't returned...

The spare wheel losing pressure notification is quite common apparently and I’m sure I read somewhere, on here, that if you rotate the wheel it fixes the problem. Sounds stupid to me but it is a Land Rover…….

    Hmm…Will have a try.

    Wound it down
    Checked pressure…still 40psi
Rotated it 120deg…..not sure if valve needed to be in specific position relative to the car?
    Wound it up
    Started engine
Low pressure light came on at start up…then went off with the other lights.

I made the mistake of breathing!

    It came back on.

It went off again (as per normal) after a couple more minutes …..when it clearly gets a sulk on if I haven’t responded to its warning.

Think I will let “sleeping sensors lie”.

But on a positive note …the tyre pressure IS still ok.

Mental note to self: Check old forum threads before starting a new one.
Off to inflate to 50 and position wheel to 9 o clock. Confused

Questions for JLR …..why hide access to the spare wheel under a floor flap that requires boot contents to be removed so it can be lifted to lower the spare? Why not have a hole with a bung in the floor to enable the hooked rod to engage with the lowering lug direct?

I’ve now got to empty the wife’s mobility scooter out of the back (having just reinstated it there) to try the above 9o lock manoeuvre. Wouldn’t like to do that on a hard shoulder for real!!

I much preferred the older style winch hub that you could fit a 21mm socket onto it and wind the spare up and down with a cordless impact driver or a 1/2" drive rachet and extension...rather than hooking the jack winder handle into it. It's already hard enough crawling under the damned car to unhook the spare once it's lowered Neutral

It seems more like a regression rather than progression.
