Yup, Uig is just a Gaelic renaming of the Norse word 'Wick'...which is harbour or a harbour settlement in old Norse. Any place in the UK with 'wich' or 'wick' in it's name (Norwich, Harwich, or even Yarvik... or York as it's modern name) was a Viking port settlement at one time, coastal or river.
If you look around the coastal or river towns in the UK on every side ending in wich or wick...you can see the Vikings got about a fair bit.
