New to me D5 after 10 years in a D4.

    Hi all,
Just a quick introduction as I picked up a high mileage D300 last week.
Not new to LR as have had D3 and D4 as my main car for around 16 years now.
Also have a L322 and Td5 defender so used to the LR quirks.
Was never sure I would buy a D5 but I’m glad I did, it is a much more modern vehicle.
Mine has done 118k so high miles but is one owner and with full LR service history.
Will be doing a full service today so I’ll let you know how I get on.

Nice one, I’ve been in a similar position with long term D4 ownership (over 10 years) and looking at what to move into.

D4 is still running ok, which has meant procrastination, but a D5 is the answer!

I hope your new purchase treats you well. Thumbs Up

    Currently a D4 owner looking for a D5.

I too was a D3 owner for 18 years. Moving to a D5 was something I had to do., and iam not disappointed it is a great vehicle much more modern than previous model

    Thanks all,
Finished off the service today with no issues so all good.
Had to replace the lower steering column UJ boot as it was torn but I had spotted this when I inspected the car.
The joint did have some surface corrosion due to water ingress and was a little stiff.
I cleaned it up with some WD40 and then re-greased and all seems ok.
Also fitted a Ctek charging port to the rear panel to make keeping the battery topped up a little easier.
Looking forward to putting some miles on now and see how we get on.

Is this UJ boot a MOT failure

That’s a good question, I’m not sure if it would be covered on the MOT as some steering UJ are not covered by a boot.
I know these do split quite often and the water ingress is always likely to cause issues so wanted to get it fixed.

Always nice to see someone getting their hands dirty on their D5. Pics and vids of maintenance or modding tips are most welcome. Bow down

I know this is a well documented issue but just had to have my windscreen re-fitted last week.
Was fitting a dash cam and whilst pushing it on to the screen the screen was flexing away from the body.
Also had some drips down the inside of the windscreen when being washed.
Upon closer inspection it was moving all the way along the top edge.
Had a local firm do it for me as life is too short to bother calling LR.
The fitter confirmed it was completely de-bonded along the top edge.
Come on LR, it can't be that hard to fit a screen properly!
This is also a facelift car so they obviously haven't solved the issue.
The thought of water ingress in to complex electrics fills me with dread.
All good now and the screen is securely fitted.
