    Reversing light upgrade

First pics of my reversing light upgrade

Anyone that had been off road may appreciate how useful this is, and how terrible the stock reversing light is.

Will connect the electrics later this week

Maybe it's just me, but I'm not sure what I'm looking at. What upgrade have you made?

It’s good news to me that it does not stand out too much

    Here is the light

Oh I see, I thought that was just the badge. Do you have a closeup? Which light did you use? How did you mount and wire it?

    Here is a close up

    Removed tailgate interior trim
Then removed external camera numberlight trim
Drilled through that trim and passed cable through the tailgate

Will wire to reversing light later. Busy now

It’s a 18w led light bar from ebay. Very bright.

    Less than £20 from ebay.

Some success. With and without the light pictures below.

Need to update the wiring as the light does not come on every time. Think the canbus
Or whatever is in this car is detecting the load change. No warning messages though.

Not sure that will supply the current.

Topix is short on such information

i guess you'll have to use a switched relay of some sort... ie. receive signal from reverse light, and take power from another source.

ps. awesome idea... and brave to be messing around with a brand new vehicle. Very Happy

    Yes. That’s the plan

Will see what current is supplied to the reversing camera to see if that will suffice. Failing that switched live - probably using the powered tailgate circuit to energise the light bar ( I expect that to be a higher current circuit than the led reversing light one )

    So

Had the car in a million parts
    Tailgate trim off
    Rear floor trim off
    Bumper off
    Trailer electrics in bits

1 hour on topix looking at electrical diagrams
1 hour routing cable though tailgate trim, roof liner and down the side of the load space to end up near the electronics buried deep in the car

Have decided the standard lighting circuit is too sensitive to additional loads. Though the trailer power should be fine. Tomorrow will splice into the loom and test.

    Ok

Have completed the reversing light upgrade
Had to use the tow bar / trailer light circuit as it was not canbus enabled
    Worked first time Smile

Here is a picture of the boot with the floor behind the rear seats removed. On the left hand side is the wiring loom for the trailer 13 pin connection
The thin (.5 mm) yellow cable with brown stripe is for the reversing light
There is also a bolt earth point next to the loom. So nice and easy.
The gaffa tape is covering a standard cable connector
