InControl Pro navigation: very strange route planning

    Just returned from a 360 km / 3.5 h trip I do regularly.
What I noticed is that the navigation app has a very strange route planning. It almost always choses a much longer route. In my case today, the suggested route was about 450 km and 4.5 h, which is about + 100 km and + 1 h longer than it should be. In the last 15 years I do this trip, I had numerous navigation systems in use, both portable and build-in, but not one of them had such a bad route planning.
I also had this situation on other trips, where the navigation suggested absolute strange routes, all much longer than necessary. The navigation app seems to have a disproportional preference for higher ranking roads like motorways and major streets, so it proposes routes that are way to long and also take more time.

I didn't find any settings that can be changed in the app. There are no calculation preferences to set (e.g. fast/short/balanced routes).
I hope this changes once the system is updated to Phase 3, because now it proved to be very unreliable.
    Any similar experiences?

I have tried the InControl Pro navigation with the traffic alerts option on and internet on board via sim card. Compared it several times with the Waze Navigation app on my phone (I use it most of the time and find it very good in traffic predictions and so on) So it was 95% same root chosen both in InControl Pro and Waze, so I would say I am very satisfied with the InControl Pro navigation.

When you say navigation app, do you mean the in car system?

If so, after you select the destination you a choice of route choices or just start.

I wanted to say that I have compared the car navigation InControl Pro (Car) (traffic alerts - ON, update life over the internet) with my favourite phone navigation - Waze Navigation app (iPhone) and it works the same way.
    I just hit the start.

Just remembered that from the beginning in the car navigation settings a lot of different types of roads were off (to avoid), I just hit all ON

Yes, I am talking about the build-in navigation of the car.
After searching/introducing a destination, there is just the option "Details at destination" and after clicking it there is just a start button, there are no different routes to chose from.

BTW: I don't have the SIM/ online option, mine is offline only.

EDIT: went to the car to check the navigation again. There is a "Route Options" button left of the "Start" button, but when I click it, there is only one route to select.

Since you're not online, that's probably the source of the problem. ICTP uses HERE for its traffic and routing, which isn't as powerful as Google Maps, as I think Google Maps has some more secret sauce behind it, and a much faster data center.

EDIT: do you have a WiFi connection option where you could use your phone as a hotspot for the ICTP to connect? If so, you might try that.

Around town, my ICTP nav is almost identical to Google Maps, but a bit slower to update if an event occurs. It's better than when we got the vehicle - at that time, the route difference on a long trip was over 1 hour's time -Google found a faster route with less traffic, whereas the ICTP nav solution was almost stubbornly trying to route us into heavy traffic.

The problem is not with the HERE maps, it's with the algorithm for the calculation of routes that is used by the InControl navigation app.
Regarding the online connectivity: the only advantage using online data would be to avoid traffic jams. It would be understandable if the app proposed a +100 km route to avoid jams, but as I willfully renounced to order this feature, it should just propose the optimal (shortest/fastest) route, which it doesn't...

It looks like a bug / not optimized algorithm in the navigation app. I hope the phase 3 update changes this...
