Fisherman your a spring chicken mate. 58 is not old Thumbs Up Laughing

Plus 1 with regards too the spoke like wheels. I looked at them and decided against them as they are a nightmare too clean. I have the same issue with my car. The amount of toothbrushes that have gone missing from the bathroom is baffling.Whistle
Only saving grace is that my wheels are gunmetal grey and not bright silver, but still show up the brake dust.

I then opted for 22 inch wheels with a bigger surface area/pattern. I looked at gloss black, but i dont think they would look right as the new car is black. Hence went for silver instead, to break the cars profile up, so too speak. Hopefully the bigger surface area will make cleaning easier. I will also be getting the wheels treated with a glaze finish, which will just need a powerwash too get rid of any brakedust, I have been informed. Its a pity gunmetal grey was not an option, instead of the bright silver ones. I did like the look of the 2 tone wheels but issues with them corroding and pitting over time put me off, plus you cannot apply any protection to the already skimmed shiny surface as it's got nothing to bond too. (I want an easy life and my pet hate when washing a car is spending ages doing the wheels). Big Cry

Anything to make life easier and save precious time.
Like you mentioned the 20's do look too small for the car. Others may disagree though, but like you correctly said it's only yourself you have too please Very Happy Thumbs Up

I am running RRS wheels on my D4 at present which are much easier than the originals.

    Original wheels

    Now.

I have the same wheels as you but in black gloss coming on my D5 which should make life easier.
I'm a huge fan of an easy life. Thumbs Up

Ps. Before anyone asks, I sold the old wheels but the car is for sale around the end of Feb if anyone fancies a nice D4 (62,000) with almost two years Warranty Direct top warranty on it.

The D4 looks great mate. Thumbs Up

A set of rims is a maker or a breaker on a car in my opinion. Can make all the difference. I gather the RR ones are 21's?

Alot of time and thought went into choosing the correct rims, anything too save time and have an easy life. I rather be driving it than spend time cleaning it. Thumbs Up

Yes I can see why your original rims were a nightmare. We had similar ones on the D4, which were a nightmare to clean. I hated the pattern. I did wonder if the thin spokes would stand up to a hammering, for such a heavy car l, but am sure the rims have been well tried and tested by the LR engineers. I think LR must be under the impression that not many people will be taking their cars offroad with wheels like these. Seems it's the current fashion having lots of spokes but the constant cleaning would drive me nuts Big Cry

It's a pity that there are no more wheel pattern choices, as I prefer not having thin spokes. The wheels I have are 5011's if my memory serves me right. The same black ones you have ordered I had a look at but decided against it. Again the 2 tones ones have the exact same pattern with gunmetal grey outline on the edges of the spokes. They look well smart, but if kerbed, it's a nightmare too fix apparently. Was also advised against diamond polished rims. Can only be reskimmed once or twice max, as the wheel has already been skimmed at the factory too give the polished look, plus hardly anyone repairs them up here. Again a nightmare too fix and costly too repair / replace. I think a may just get a set of steel wheels and stick on shiny hub caps like the good old days.Rolling with laughter

Oh my pet hate was the tacky wheel trims stuck on steel wheels too make them look like alloys. Far less likely too get damaged if kerbed but the amount of Ford Escorts with broken and cracked silver trims exposing the black wheel behind was an awful look. Just take the broken trims off - aaarrrggghhhhh !! Surprised

    I opted for L405 rims.

In need of a clean. Though damaged one yesterday on something hidden in the slush.

RRS wheels are 20”. D4 is a beautiful car. Been loved to within an inch of its life. Someone will get a nice car one day. Anyone out there wants a deal, pm me.
Regards damage, the only way to avoid it is be mindful of what you have. If it’s too much trouble I’ll swap them for smaller 21”s or even black 20”s. May even go aftermarket on some compomotives or similar.
I hope I’ll be ok living with what I chose. 🤞

It's called Gtechiq as Jim has kindly pointed out. Smile
The whole exterior of the car is getting done once it's arrived. It's like the ceramic coating on your teacup. Lasts for 7 years and once applied protects the car from light scratches etc. Cars in for 4 days getting treated. I put a video up months back about a First Edition getting it done from the same garage I will be getting it done by. Basically black is a scratch magnet, so this coating protects from bird droppings tree sap, bushes when offroading etc and will still maintain a deep glossy showroom shine. I will put photos up once the car is done. If they decide too do a video I will upload that as well. If you use a sponge there won't be the dreaded swirl marks, once the coating is applied. I always snow foam cars before washing anyway and never use a sponge, always a lambs mitt with 2/3 bucket method too avoid scratches. With the coating there will be far less washing required and a snowfoam or powerwash should suffice. Like I posted earlier I rather be driving it than washing it, that's if the wife let's me :rolllaugh

I forgot to mention the guys doing this process are few and far between. Theres only a handful of them in Scotland. It's quite a highly skilled application. If it goes on incorrectly the only way is too sandpaper it off with a fine paper. Best to leave it in the hands of the professionals me thinks. Laughing

Ha ha I assumed they were 21's. Must be the wheel pattern making them look bigger, or was the D4 sitting in access mode?

Is it just me, or do 20 inch wheels look alot smaller on the D5 compared too the D4 on 20 inch wheels. I think due too the shape and side profile of the D5 compared too the D4 that it does. Our D4 had 19's and 20's for winter which looked fine. I may need a trip too specsavers after all. Whistle

Yes very true. Am always wary when parking. Plus no excuse now due too front n rear cameras and the ariel view parking gizmo which I have also added too the build. Laughing

Ok so I have about 9 weeks to wait for my car to be ready if there's no delay.
    1. Is there anything I can do to prepare for the arrival?
I'm going to get a 3 4G data sim off the Bay of E for about £28 which gives me 12Gb for one year. I would guess that it's plenty for the amount of data used by the car.
    2. I was wondering if whilst the car was parked at home it would use my home WiFi and my phone data when I was driving (With the phone hotspot enabled) to reduce the use of the on board sim data?
    3. I understand I can set it up to use any of the three options but wondered if it would choose the other options automatically when in range?
    4. I don't have any details of my car as yet so assume all the registering for the App based stuff has to wait until I get the car in my grubby little hands before I can start playing?
    5. Is there anything I can do to check on the build etc apart from annoying the salesman constantly?
Any suggestions you guys can give to help me while away the very long days will be much appreciated.
    Bow down Thumbs Up

    1) Forum sticker

The rest is out of my league, my one has the standard incontrol system, which LR has now abandoned on the SE model for 18MY.

I forget what its called but the dealer can give you access to a portal where you can see updates of the order process but other than that, just annoy the salesman. Thats what I did.

The Three Sim card lasts for ever if you only use it for incar functions.
Mine has used 3GB in 9 months and that includes occasional data use for the grandchildren's essential mobile phones. Whistle

I see no need to use your home WiFi or mobile phone unless you foresee a high data usage?

Although as we now know you do not need to register the Sim on the Three site. for it to work.
However, I did register when I had the Sim ( and no car!! Rolling with laughter )

One benefit is that you can see what you have used, next March when it runs out through time I will just buy another and not bother registering as I am sure I will not use the 12GB.
