Looking at a D5 Any advice

    Hello all,

Just thought i'd log in and say hi, not really been on here since i departed company with my perfectly working never had an issue in 7 years D3 XS.

Swapped it for a DISCOVERY Sport in 2015 and havent really felt thr Permagrin since.

So, i'm looking at the D5, Used. Seen a few in Corris Grey. This particular one is the 2.0 SE with black black. There's on in Liverpool and one in Milton Keynes that fit my criteria.

So before i put any Veh Reg's up asking if this is or has been a problem vehicle or indeed a forum members Ex Veh or a rejected one i just thought i'd swing by and see if there is anything i need to be aware of or look out for. I've been lurking since Xmas, realise there were some issues on the early ones with infotainment but not sure on other issues. The rear end doesnt bother me, as the front and sides more than make up for what other people deem to be ugly.

So apart from the obvious, shoud i proceed. Thumbs Up

P.S. i had a Border Terrier on my D3 Avatar. Dog

I would just make sure all the updates/fixes have been applied.

Have a look at Topix for the ones that apply for the reg.

Hi Chalky I have the SE. It doesn't seem to have as many problems as HSE due to it having a different infortaiment system (low tech). My only bug bear is it takes an age to connect to the USB music stick. (Dam you've set me off again.) The 3rd row seats dont lay flat which is pretty rubbish. But other than that and need for services at low milage and drinking adblue its fine. If they offer you the service plan at a good price take it.

The SE i've seen is a 2.0, comes with a 5 year service plan ? The salesman made a point of this, do the 2.0 litre ones need regular service, how much asblu are these things consuming ?

I've seen a HSE as wel,l black pack, again 2.0 litre. the HSE seems to have a load of Extras on that the SE doesn't, Heated rear seats, blind spot, 10" screen, cubby storage under cup holders and behind dials. High beam assist etc,

Thought the 3.0 litres suffered oil contamination, burnt adblu, i take it 2.0 litre is the same.

Mines the 3 litre. I dònt know if its me being thick but cant seem to work out whether there's a problem with the 2 litre or not. I seem to read conflicting reports. Im very happy with my SE but then i would be happy with the HSE it comes down to cost.

2.0 is 21,000 miles or 24 months whichever comes first ...3.0 is 16,000 or 12 months whichever comes first.

How come some are displaying the service interval at 4,900 miles ?

Compared to the DS the D5 is a world better. Both my DS’s were shoddily built and rattled all over the place. The 17MY was admittedly far better than the one I rejected (16MY) but still creaked from all the door seals and in the boot.

Never had a permagrin with either. Now do with D5.

It’s submime to drive compared to the DS. Not had any issues at all and it’s only been in for software updates and field action mods. Does have a slight rattle in the boot somewhere but it’s not that bothersome right now. Apart from that it’s built to a far higher standard than the DS. Then it does cost a lot more !

The 2L is amazing and doesn’t suffer the oil dilution issues the 2L Ingenium does in the DS.

After 4.5K miles I’m still looking forward to each time I drive it.

I can see from the pic of the interior that the update hasn't been done to the In Control as the 4X4 Logo is on screen not the Mountain Stmbol, Also the seats are 2 section not the 3.

    I'm learning QUICK..... Thumbs Up

Row 2 is three section. Middle seat can be manually folded. Using the boot buttons it’s a 60/40 split.

Try a 2L. It’s very very good. Not as creamy smooth as the 3L, but very good. Unless you need the low down torque of the 3L, the 2L is a good choice. Also fairly easy to get nearly 40MPG out of it.

Are you going to be doing any towing with it, if so go for the 3.0 if not the 2 seems to be OK

I agree with Russell. The 3 litre is superior for towing, due too the low down torque. Thumbs Up
