I just bought another 12Gb sim for the Three network from https://www.mymemory.co.uk/3-payg-4g-trio-...-data.html

There was a recent thread about this, but I cannot find it!!

+1 for Three. You also get free EU data roaming (though this maybe now covered under EU regs for mobile companies).

For me rurally Three are by far the best for coverage.

+1 from me as well. 3 sim is cheap and coverage is excellent. I bought 24 gig last May but 12 would have been plenty.

    Question -

If you all have 4G phones that can act as a mobile hotspot, then why even buy a SIM card? Mine works fine once I enable my phone's hotspot and let the car connect to it...it may even be faster since my D5 is a MY17 with the 3G radio.

Do UK/Euro carriers disable mobile hotspots that are built into most phones these days?

No they do not, but for 35 USD it seems fairly cheap for a year.

In Canada i cannot get a pay as you go sim without a monthly reset and payment. Sounds like a monthly plan to me. I do not want to pay 25$ a month for the few hundreds of MB of data i use in my D5 per month.

Three, in the UK, offer pay as you go data sim that you can use abroad, in 71 countries...but not Canada.
I was thinking of getting a UK sim and using it only as roaming but apparently Canadian mobile companies have not made any deals with Three, so i'm out of luck there.
Three seems to be the only ones who offer a roaming service that comes out of your monthly or pay as you go plan as if you were at home.

I will wait for Canada to be in the list of Feel at Home destinations.

Until then i have to wait for the entertainment system to boot up, allow me to have access to the Connectivity settings, then wait for it to find my mobile hotspot from my phone, then wait for it to connect. THEN i can start moving. You cannot connect to a wifi hotspot if you are moving.
Very annoying when you decide to use SatNav and traffic warning once you've set off.
