Newbe to the D5, from D3.

Do you mean a "random" location rather than an address?
If so, I use the Map on the route planner and send it to the car.
I find it much easier to use the route planner for all my destinations rather than sit and fiddle with the in car sat nav.
If I want a very precise location in the countryside I use Google maps in satellite view and then click, copy a long/lat and the paste into the route planner.

Yup, me too. The route planner app is very good and you can select the very point on the map that want to visit.

Thanks for that info - in my last vehicle I could set a 'Home' destination via the map or enter a co-ordinate.
When we go to Spain we don't actually have an address that the sat-nav understands, so I need to enter it some other way.
I need to set like a temporary 'Home; while we are out there for a few months.
When I view the sat-nav map and it shows my location THAT'S where I need to set up a 'Home'
Does this make sense?

Yes, exactly what I meant.
We travel through France a couple of times year and I find all the exact places I want to stop and send them to the car.
If you play with the route planner on a PC you will see what I mean.
You can find the exact location in Spain and save that to the car. Have a play and you will see how it works!!

Thanks jimbg
That's helped somewhat.
One other thing you might know - when you set a route on the route planner on the PC how can you set alternative routes - if it doesn't offer one?

Just tap the map. Up pops a location flag. Tap it and set it as your destination. Been doing this in France a lot this week. Using the satellite view to find a location (beach or some such) then tapping the screen where I want to go. Not sure if you can do this to add waypoints though if a route already set. Not tried that yet.

Can you send a route to the car from the phone app? Or do they automatically sync?
