    I've used warranty direct in the past

    IIRC each year the cost went up and the coverage went down

    One time I claimed for nearside and offside suspension components which needed replacing simultaneously. I was pretty unimpressed when WD argued that they were 2 different replacements and made me pay two lots of excess for the one job!

    WD is better than nothing but any saving on buying the policy has to be balanced against their strict reading of their T's&C's and the hoops you have to jump through

    In my view you get what you pay for and when the time comes I would go for the official LR warranty for peace of mind and minimal hassle factor

    Car back with 10k of new engine

    Finally got my car back. Nearly 1 month to the day since the crankshaft gave up. New engine is running well and no sign of creaks and knocks I expected after such a major transplant.

    What surprised me is that the new engine has zero warranty. Apparently because it was a goodwill gesture, any guarantees are dropped 🤔 Needless to say after being without a car for four weeks, I won’t be using warranty direct at renewal and will be forking out for the Landrover branded policy. At least if I need another engine next year (😬) I will get a courtesy car with that policy…

    Ideally I would have my new car on the horizon but like others in another thread, the MY23 spanner has hit my order too.

    I’ve got a LR warranty.

    Pretty sure you aren’t entitled to a curtesy car.

    The other thing is unless you take out a LR warranty immediately the manufacturers warranty expires, then you can’t take it out later.

    Well if that’s the case, even more reason to get shot quickly.

    Got a few weeks to research while I wait for the dvla to update my V5 with the new engine number before I can sell in any case.

    Am sure you can take out the LR extended warranty after the original warranty expires, but LR insist to give the car a thorough checkover beforehand, costing you an additional £250 or thereabouts for the privilige. This was in the literature I received when I took out the warranty last year.

    When my original 3 year warranty came to an end in June 2020, I merely got a letter/pamphlet advising me of the options and costs for extending the warranty for a year. I simply logged onto their site and paid…no vehicle checkup or £250 payment, was required.

    Does anyone know if you can extend the extended warranty for a further year when it expires?

    Given the current climate of car availability I am moved to keep it for another year.

    Edit. Sorry just reread the post…my warranty was still live at the time.

    Warranty can be renewed for 10 years from new, and/or 100,000 miles, whatever comes first.

    Yeah, it’s swings and roundabouts to a degree. You pays your money and takes your chance. Different policies cover different things.

    Think I was charged just over £1k including AA breakdown cover. There’s a post on here detailing various options.

    None include a curtesy car unfortunately. There again, I don’t need it.

    It was certainly a toss up between LR endorsed warranty and Warranty Direct - which was half the price.

    I believe the LR one won’t cover - and iam not sure off the top of my head, the correct term, but is it a common gearbox fault? but WD does.

    WD doesn't cover off road, JLR does but doesn't cover DPF where WD does, JLR covers all factory fitted items WD appears to exclude lights. Try replacing a faulty headlight, it’s expensive.

    None cover what might be classed as a manufacturing fault or defect. There’s get out of jail clauses with the lot of them.

    I certainly had a D4 that developed a gearbox problem and it was fixed FOC just outside the manufacturers warranty, but after a couple of months, it just didn’t sound right, so I got shot of it. That’s probably the best you can do with a vehicle that’s starting to give you bother otherwise you’re playing Russian Roulette.

    That all sounds sensible.

    My problem is that after needing 12 months to get the dealers to identify and eventually replace a noisy transfer box, along the way there have been 3 other faults that needed fixing!

    I am at a point where “1 more fault and it’s had its lot” as warranty runs out in June 22.

    However, with long deliveries on most prestige makes and insufficient used or demonstrator stocks available, it might be a case of holding my breath and praying. As it’s got 4 faults out of the way in 2021, hopefully it will now behave a bit longer. 🤞

    Just reached the warranty decision point on my SDV6. It's been totally reliable so far and did toy with the idea of running on with no warranty, especially after seeing the Land Rover quote of about £1000 for a year. However think some insurance might be sensible so am now weighing up the Land Rover/Warranty direct comparison.

    WD is only £400, which seems like good value, but from reading this thread the vibe I am getting is that LR might be the more seamless pain free experience in the event of a major claim, which is what I am really concerned about covering.

    I have more or less decided LR, but would be interested to hear if anyone has had any bad experience or rejected claims with them.

    On paper they all sound like they have a heck of a lot of escape clauses if they dont want to pay out...

    I feel Warranty Direct is more comprehensive than the LR one. Certainly it’s cheaper, I was quoted roughly £450 for the first year out of warranty. The second year it goes up to £900 or so - I had a play with the age of the vehicle. As the saying goes - you pays your money ……..

    Weird the wide range of WD prices. Everybody seems to have s different quote from them.

    I'm now considering to warranty or not on my recent purchase, 2019 Anniversary model. The manufacturer new warranty end in March. It's on 27k.

    So far, I've had two quotes, LR was circa £950, Warranty Direct varied depending on the level of excess but for example £150 excess was about £500. £250 excess was about £350.

    My concern with going LR, is that I don't really want to be tied to LR for general maintenance and servicing, as I have a really good local specialist that has access to the LR systems to log servicing etc...He expanded to cover LR when the local dealer closed and I've used him for all things Mercedes and BMW for years.

    I imagine that the LR warranty will be more difficult if it hasn't been to LR for services. I plan to keep the car 4 or so years, and hence prefer the reasonable costs and convenience of the specialist and when you sell at that stage the LR history becomes much less important in my experience.

    Does anyone know / have (unfortunate !) experience of whether the WD warranty comes good if there is a big issue such as engine, or gearbox, or infotainment failures etc..... I'm really only concerned about some cover for such big items, I'm happy to 'self-insure' against the more run of the mill issues...

    Any views appreciated, I do have around 4 weeks to decide and sort this...
