Thanks MarkMc

. Itβs now in the dealers. LR Assist came out to it again over the weekend and found the leak towards the rear on the pipe.
Unfortunately LR extended warranty has rejected the repair due to it being corrosion so it looks like itβs coming from our own pockets!

Try and get an independent to carry out the work. Even then it will be costly Iβm afraid π

We are just going dealer route but looks like waiting for parts is going to be a problem and car not back until after Christmas.

Got our car back beginning of January. Just in time for the arrival of snow!
JLR contributed 50%of the bill which was appreciated ππΌ

Really interesting reading this thread. I have to admit to never, ever, checking coolant levels. Not in any way DIY focused with cars, and before my two holidays a year I take the car to Harwoods for a levels check, if it isn't requiring a service. A couple of days prior to Christmas, the low coolant level light came on (MY23.5 with 30k miles). I checked the tank and it was completely empty. Not a drop remaining. Popped to the dealer for two bottles of their expensive OEM coolant, so I had some spare. I've re-filled it, and so far can't detect any loss in about 3 weeks / 500 miles.
The car was last serviced in June 2023.
Can coolant simply evaporate (I did a lot of long journeys in Sept/Oct, and 2 weeks driving around southern Italy in extreme heat in July?)
I've got no smell from the car, no sign of a leak.
Intrigued......

It can be a sign the engine is on the way out.
Iβve had two engine go, the first one lost coolant first, then the oil level went down.

Just had the same problem on my 17 2.0, coolant loss at incredible rate with no obvious sign of external loss! Turned out to be a failed charge cooler. Had charge cooler replaced and all good so far!
Might be worth some of you guys checking that out

When I had LR Assist out to look at and replacing the battery last weekend, I asked them about my coolant loss issue - the chap diagnosed it to the cap on the coolant expansion tank under the bonnet. It should be air-tight, and mine wasn't. He said he'd pick a new one up for me, and drop by and fit it today.
My guess is it's never been a perfect fit, and hence coolant has gradually leaked out until the tank was pretty much empty and the dash warning came up. Leakage since I spotted has been minimal, probably only lost a further 50ml in six weeks.
Hoping that's all it is.... And I do love the LR Assist service. Didn't realise they would source and collect OE parts, and making appointments to come back and fit them. Excellent service!

Youβre lucky, I only have the AA as LRA donβt cover up north.
They come, look at the vehicle and refer me to the main dealer.

I had no idea - I just presumed LR Assist was nationwide?! That's annoying. Obviously a concentration of LRs in the South East, but they're really good. You don't always get an actually LRA tech, sometimes just 'AA', but you can say you'd wait for LR Assist, even if it means a longer wait time.

I recall years ago having a new D3 only about a week and one of the air suspension compressors went t*ts up near Birmingham on a trip south.
I called out LRA and they came in a very fancy wagon and changed out the faulty suspension there and then in a car park.
I was impressed, but since then any call out has been north and as I said, itβs the AA, who mean well, but donβt attempt to do anything but refer you to the main dealership.
Talking of which, I took the car into the min dealership yesterday re a steering problem, anyway, it surprised me that they are now charging Β£40 for a curtesy car, it used to be Β£20 and the excess for their insurance is now Β£750 up from Β£400.
I didnβt have to pay the Β£40, only because I am one of the few loyal customers left, but I canβt always guarantee it in the future, not least because my contacts will eventually retire.

It's the general downgrading in service from the dealer network. My local dealer, Harwoods Croydon, used to offer free collection & delivery, which I always made use of for a service. Now you have to pay, so I either book a sit & wait appointment and just make reception my office for a few hours, or get the other half to drop me down there and run me back down. Not as convenient by half.
