Without looking at it, if it's excessive, it could point to a clogged PCV valve (Positive CrankCase Ventilation valve). Without being hands on, it's almost impossible to tell.

That's just a guess since my TD6 has very little blow-by...

Yup, that's what I'd say was excessive, I can even hear the blowback as well as see it Shocked

Mine is a 2017, around 88,000 miles on the clock - absolutely zero oil loss, zero smoke out of the tailpipe.

Ensure you're using the correct oil that meets JLR spec. I have tried other motor oil (Mobil 1 full syn, correct weight, everything but the JLR spec) and I indeed experienced reduced fuel economy by about 1-2 mpg.

If you don't have a history of the vehicle, get an oil test. The oil test I had done at the end of the Mobil 1's life showed increased iron against previous results from the same tester...a sure sign something didn't like that oil. I went back to the JLR spec oil and everything has been fine since.

Most of my mileage has been either motorways or off-road under stress. Just how diesels like it. Stop-and- go town driving kills these engines rather quickly.

Besides any branded/non branded oil related issue...there's definitely a mechanical problem there. Way too much blow-by from that oil filler in the video.

I'd still say it's more than likely to be related to the PCV, clogged or inop...he also has a loose, broken component he found rattling around the left hand side of the engine bay (from his other recent post on this forum). It has what looks like a broken or severed rubber breather pipe attached. I still haven't been able to identify what part it is or where it's originally come from.

I initially thought 'broken air suspension part', due to it's appearance and where he discovered it...now I'm not so sure due to the excessive blow-by issue. It could be engine or PCV related, I've really no idea...

Speaking as a fitter, doing car mechanics via the internet can't be anything but uninformed guesswork with such limited information, especially when I can't get hands on with it... there's no mention of engine warning lights or dianostic related engine ECU fault codes...I don't know when or where he bought the car, how long he's had it, any service related history...I don't even know what colour it is Shocked
