Greetings
Hello folks. Just moved to a D5 after many years of previous model Discovery ownership.
Car looks great but sadly did not come with a handbook of any sort and I’m kinda screwed.
I’ve read through heaps of threads and cannot, for the life of me understand the terminology because I simply don’t have a clue what’s being referred to due to not having a handbook so you guys are gonna have to help me out, please be patient.🙄
Can somebody please advise how I delete the previous owners details from the screen so I can personalise the car and remember, you’re gonna have to use very basic language as I simply don’t have a scooby?
Also, what’s this App that I hear about and do I need it? ( told you I don’t have a clue )
Cheers + thanks in advance for help with this 3 ton paperweight which drives great but keeps calling me Jonny.😂

Wolfpack - That is very greatly appreciated.
My son has kindly configured the car now, not got a clue how he did it but it’s now done and no longer calls me Jonny. Can I ask, what’s this other app that folk keep referring to and do I need it?
It’s a 2019 HSE btw, if that helps.
Gotta say, there’s a huge technology leap from the D4 to the D5. -

Every thing (almost) you need to know is online here: https://www.ownerinfo.landrover.com/model/...nt/1657614
The days of paper manuals and service books are gone.
The app is the land rover remote app here: https://www.landrover.com/market-selector/...e-app.html
If it's a 2019, you'll have the InControl navigation rather than the later PiviPro, which means you can also plan your journeys on your phone or PC and send them to the car navigation (unfortunately this is something they didn't include with the later PiviPro systems). Detals are here: https://www.landrover.here.com/
Using the remote features will require a working data SIM and a current subscription to the services from LR (can be purchased online).
MY2026 D5 Metropolitan D350 - on order......

Hi Narpy
Welcome to the Disco5 forum.
I recognise your name from the Disco3 forum, which I joined 2 months short of 20 years ago, just after I purchased a new Discovery 3. I found the Disco3 forum extremely useful which contributed to me keeping that vehicle for over 19 years before buying a Discovery 5 last September 2024.
I trust you enjoy owning and driving a Discovery 5 and find being a member of the Disco5 forun interesting and beneficial. -

Hi Zig, yeah I was a regular contributor over there for quite some time back in the day.
The jury is still out regarding the D5. It has so many features I’m kinda bamboozled by it all at the moment, there’s features on that thing that I’m confident I’ll never need nor use but it’s mostly user error that’s causing me uncertainty, I simply don’t know what I’m doing. For example, I’ve had a mare today with the cruise control. Damn thing keeps starting something called “Lim” and won’t set cruise speed and I’ve also noticed this lane positioning feature is terrible. Dash goes red on one side and I’m not sure it attempts to steer back by itself. Frightened the bejeezus out of me but again I think it’s just user error and getting familiar with these features.
Lane assist, so far, not impressed.
Cruise control, so far, not impressed.
Tyre pressure monitoring, so far, not impressed.
Start stop, If I had my way, I’d rip it out, throw it in a skip and never miss it. Utterly useless feature. How do I permanently turn this off?
If there was a handbook, I’d read it and get a better understanding but being a bloke I think I’d rather learn through messing with it.
Gonna be fitting roof bars + rails and using the existing trims so watch out for a How-To regarding reusing the old trims that you’re supposed to throw away and spend the value of a small property buying replacements. Not happening. I’ve got a reputation as a tight northern bar steward to maintain and will not be throwing anything out that can be reused. -

Welcome to the dark side mate
I have a hard copy old school user manual that I found in the glove box after I bought the car...but unfortunately it's of no use to you since it's for a 2017 TD6 model.
Looks like you've pressed the speed limiter (LIM) instead of the cruise control. Cruise control works fine on the dual carriageways or motorways and you activate/deactivate it by just pressing the button on the steering wheel.
Your 2019 posh-boy Disco is a bit newer than mine so there's a few differences in the steering wheel button placement and as far as I know...options and settings....so I'll try to avoid adding any confusing info. You may have the upgraded adaptive cruise control for instance...I don't.
As for Lane keep assist...fine if you like that sorta thing... but it was the first thing I disabled (along with all the other optional driver aids) after I picked the car up. You can access the settings from the centre dash 'driver assistance' menu. You access that menu from the steering wheel options selector.
The 'intelligent' stop/start...just get into the habit of pressing the button on the bottom right of the terrain response selector panel (underneath the speed limiter button) to disable it every time you start up...
Pressing the button has become second nature for me, even though I know how to physically disable the stop/start....but that's getting into mucking about with your car territory that I'm uncomfortable with sharing on a general owners forum since unplugging it, besides having no other adverse effects, also disables the battery monitoring system.
As a fitter, I'm fine with doing stuff along those lines. The D5 is paid for, maintained by me and has no warranty to worry about invalidating. I've already fitted an onboard ARB compressor to it along with some external lights and switch gear...handy for me around the farm. My D2 and D4 were also heavily modded.
There is a company based in Maidstone that'll reprogram the stop/start system to always remember if the stop/start has been set to off or not...but it'll cost you £100 just to have that little option reprogrammed. I'll add the link below anyway as they offer many other (mostly expensive) customisation and retrofit options that may be of interest to someone with more disposable income than common sense...
https://www.lr-chip.co.uk/car/discovery-5-...activation
TPMS, it's fine...it's only there to warn you if any of the tyres drop below 30psi, otherwise, you shouldn't need to pay much attention to it.
Apart from the obvious stuff...and having come over to the dark side from a much loved D4 myself...most of it isn't that complicated once you get a handle on where the bits and bobs are and what they do.
Bar the plethora of fancy schmancy buttons and a few more options on the centre screen, it's not really that different from the D4.
Just press some buttons and see what moves or lights up. You can't break anything by pressing buttons... or they wouldn't have been put there for you to play with in the first place

Great post Mole, thanks for that.
Yeah my previous cars have also been heavily modded too. This limiter thing got me quite angry last night as It constantly prevented me from using cruise. It’s just a pointless and probably useless feature I just know I’ll never intentionally use but I do accept it’s a user error thing. Can this be turned off?
There also appears to be far too much wallow and I’m thinking the tyre pressures are probably too low but TPMS doesn’t seem to know, another useless feature. I’ll get the old pressure gauge out and manually check each one.🙄
That lane assist thing, imho, is bordering on dangerous but I’m not certain if this is made worse because of the potential tyre pressure problem I think I’ve got. I need to turn that off too.
Stop/Start: I found the off button ( it was similar to the wife’s VW Up ) but the damn thing keeps coming back on with every restart. Furthermore, when I was stuck in traffic, I figured it would be actually useful and couldn’t turn it back on.🙄
I need to desperately familiarise myself with this car and its plethora of features before drawing any conclusions but I have a dreadful feeling the wipers will be a whole new issue if the D4 intermittent wipe was anything to go by. 6 years I had that car and never did warm to those wipers erratic behaviour which was just hopeless.
I do keep discovering features however. My neighbour has a RR Full Fat and he’s found a few features + cubby boxes I didn’t know existed. I was astounded to learn the centre console drinks holders actually slide forward and there’s a huge cubby underneath. -

There's also a hidden cubbyhole behind the air/temp knobs under the centre screen if you haven't found it yet
Most of those settings like for the limiter, driver assist options, Lane Keep Assist, tyre pressure info etc are all in the centre dash menu (between the clocks). You can access that menu via the steering wheel selector thing on the left side... circular thingy with an OK button in the middle....on my steering wheel anyway.
From the main menu it has some sub menus to scroll through by pressing left and right on the steering wheel selector:
vehicle settings
vehicle information
Tyre pressures
Driver assistance (and I totally agree with you on the lane keep assist, get it turned off)
Display options
HUD settings (if fitted)
Etc, etc. I can't remember them all by heart... You can also check your engine oil level from there...which is more complicated than it sounds...
It's worth scrolling through those menu options and seeing what's set and what's not. You can turn things on and off from there (including the speed limiter) by scrolling over the option and pressing the OK button on the selector.
My steering wheel and dash, being a 2017 model, looks like this so will be slightly different from yours...especially since my speedo and tacho are old school analogue instead of digital.
But that centre dash menu has a lot of important settings in there so worth pressing that selector and having a shuftee through it.
The TPMS is just a monitoring system and not much else...in the settings menu on the centre dash, it'll suggest pressures for light load/heavy load etc but doesn't self adjust....you have to do that the old fashioned way by manually putting air in...the TPMS as a subsystem is just to warn you if you have a flat or the tyres (including the spare) are under pressure.
I fitted the ARB compressor under the bonnet because I drop the tyre pressures for charging about off road around the fields and it's handy being able to pump them back up to road pressures once I've finished chasing cows around...
I like my tyres fairly firm for road use so set them front and back to around 40psi...but then again, that depends entirely on which tyres and wheel sizes you have...again, your wheels/tyres are of a different size to mine. LR fitted 21" wheels and wider, lower profile tyres after 2018 I think, mine are 20" with 255/55 R20 tyres so my pressures would be no use to you
I find the D5 slightly less wallowy around the roads than my D4...so if you feel it's rolling about a bit like a boat or feeling a bit harsh over bumps, that would suggest the air suspension just feeling a bit different to the D4 tied in with the lower profile tyres. I find the D5 handles more like a car than a Land Rover...it doesn't feel as 'big' ...if you know what I mean.
The wipers...I leave mine generally set to auto and they seem to work fine both intermittent and normal speed working via the rain sensor. Annoyingly, you have to set the wipers to service mode to change the wiper blades front and back...
More annoyingly...the D5 also nags at you if the screen washer fluid is low.
Overall, I generally like the D5 and it's fancy toys, it grows on you after a bit...Sure, I miss some things about my D4 but I'm happy I moved on to the D5...

I always chuckle at the phrase describing it as a ‘hidden’ cubby hole. Mine has a big button saying OPEN on it. I think JLR should have included a fly out flag saying “SURPRISE”
