Has anyone got experience with home use ODBII Scanners with a D5? I suspect i am not alone with getting the engine management light coming on with either insignificant or spurious DTCs, Now, i have local friendly independent garage that i take the car to and he reads the codes and cancels the insignificant ones for free, while following up and addressing the ‘real’ issues.
It would be good to be a bit more self sufficient, as i ended up calling out the breakdown service whilst away with the caravan last week, not want to risk towing with the light on, not knowing what the fault code was. As it turned out it was a turbo overboost condition failure that had occurred and whilst it needs looking into, it would not compromise towing home. He cleared the code and it is in next week to have the throttle body looked at.
As I understand it there is not a code reader of much use for the D5 at present. The IID Tool that is available does not do anywhere near as much for the D5 as it did for the D3/4 as the D5 is very much a different kettle of fish and not one to be mucked around with.
Yup, I upgraded my IID tool from the G3 version I used with the D4 to the latest G4 version on the GAP website. The upgrade cost around £220 compared to the G4 retailing at £550.
The new G4 IID tool covers the D5 quite nicely

I have an Ottofix, it's ok for diagnostics and maintenance on a range of cars but not good for specifically coding on LRs.
Thing has paid for itself though. I always had an issue with my D5 adaptive cruise being very harsh in terms of braking. Mentioned it to the dealers when in for service, they said there are no issues. When I got the Ottofix I did a full scan and clear of codes and magically since then my adaptive cruise has been much better behaved, works as I'd expect

I’ve got the G3 and it’s still able to connect and read faults. It shows me options but some won’t work 🤷🏻♂️
Is that because I need to up grade to the G4
Worked on mine, I programmed a spare fob I bought from Ebay with it...but we've both got the old style D4 type keyfobs, LR changed the fobs to Ultra Wide Band in 2018 to combat the surge in relay thefts. I'd have to check if the G4 does the new style UWB keyfobs or not.
Can't see why not since it's all done via the BCM...but I haven't checked if an official security update on the later model D5's software may have changed it.

The G3 when I click the sub menu to add a new key I go through the motions continue continue continue on the final one which is would you like to proceed? Continue and it takes me back to the start of the menu 🤷🏻♂️ is it because I’ve got the G3 it won’t allow me to do this
That key is the same as mine but it says landrover
Mechanically, the D5 isn't any more difficult to work on than a D3 or D4...it's the fancy-schmancy electronic trickery that makes it a bit more of a pain than either the D3 or the D4. That was the main reason I upgraded my old G3 tool for the G4.
I didn't fancy the cost of another £220 on top of the £400 or so I'd already paid for the G3 a few years ago when I bought it for the Disco 4...but since I DIY practically everything on mine...I didn't really have an option

I’ve got no issue fixing stuff , it’s the fact it gives me an option that doesn’t work and from what I’ve just read it’s to do with keyless entry
So thieves can write new keys but owners can’t
