Mine did that once... I found this tip which makes sense:

To reset the black center screen on a Discovery 5, press and hold the media power button (the central volume knob) until the screen goes blank and the brand logo appears. This should complete the reset process.

Nice one Moley. I went out to the car after about 2 hours and normal service was resumed but I’ll try the screen reset when it happens again, because I know it will.
It’s the second time it’s blanked out on me.😩

I'm just wondering if I can update my original D4 style keyfob to the later model UWB one. Not sure if the technology is just in the key electronics or if it needs a UWB key receiver in the car to work.

I can buy a cheap fob on Ebay and program it with the IID tool...I suppose I could always just spend a few quid to try it out and see if the car will accept one of the UWB fobs...it'll need a CCF edit via the IID tool for the BCM module...but outside of that, I've never heard of it being done.

If the key module on the car needed replaced...plus new keys, it would cost over £1500 as a rough ballpark figure so not really worth considering.

It's both the car and key that are different. With the UWB, the car actually times how long it takes to communicate with the key so it can work out how far away the key is even if a thief is relaying the signal through a repeater to increase the signal strength.

Just as a quick addendum to this sleeping battery topic, the guys at PowerfulUK are selling this sleeping battery conversion module for pre 2018 non UWB key fobs.

It differs from the individual sleeping batteries available from the likes of Amazon or Ebay in that this small electronic module allows you to use any standard CR2025/CR2032 fob battery and convert it to the sleeping battery tech. It means you only have to buy this once and simply re-use it when you replace the fob battery...rather than constantly buying new replacement sleeping batteries at £60 a piece. The kit also comes with a Faraday pouch.

I'd also suggest using 3v CR2025 batteries with the sleeping module...since the diameter is the same as the 3v CR2032's. CR denotes lithium coin type. 20 being the diameter. 25 or 32 etc being the thickness. The slightly thinner CR2025 batteries + the sleeping module will be an easier fit in the fob.

Simon at PowerfulUK also did an explaination video (in the link above) on fitting the gadget and how the sleeping battery tech works.

Retails at £57 per unit (no battery included) with free UK shipping from PowerfulUK with complimentary Faraday pouch.

Or alternatively, direct from the German manufacturers web site for €69 per unit, €119 for a pair or €75 for one including the Faraday pouch. All of the prices from the manufacturer include the cost of standard CR2025/CR2032 batteries. Thumbs Up
