Nice one Moley, thanks for that.
I’ll go down the “ghost” route and see what they have to say for themselves.
I can catergorically confirm with two trackers and 3 cameras, that my car never moved on the date in question so it will potentially get quite interesting if they become insistent.
I’m gonna keep that info up my sleeve for the time being as I don’t believe it’s up to me to prove I wasn’t involved and more the claimant who should prove I was involved.
Really disappointed that the insurance company registered a claim against me without speaking to me first though.
They’ll have to do some crawling to right that wrong.
You will need to get your insurer to confirm in writing that no claim has been registered to you once this is sorted.
Some years ago the wife lost her spectacles. I rang the insurers and (in those days) they said they would post a claims form. Next morning the wife found the spectacles and I re phoned the insurers. I confirmed that they hadn’t posted the paperwork yet …so I told them not to bother.
The next year I got a notification that I had 2 claims in the year and my premium was going up.
Now I had one claim for a carpet that was damaged but not two !
Yes they had the spectacles on there as the 2nd.
I argued that the claim wasn’t progressed …they didn’t even send out paperwork! They just said that initiating a claim was sufficient for it to go on my record….the outcome was irrelevant.
Make sure you get a written retraction.

Shouldn't a protected no claims bonus deal with that though? I'd have to check the small print on it...but I will be looking closer at that option to see if it does what I only think it does.
If it doesn't do what it says on the tin, even though it's only pennies to add it to your policy, it'll be getting binned, I already pay the shysters more than enough for their legally enforced licence to print money.

This has certainly been an endorsement for GPS tracking in general and, strangely enough, the Land Rover InControl Remote app with it's journey logging and GPS tracking figuring in there too
Glad you're recoving from the dreaded lurgy too, Ian. Noticed you'd been quiet on here for a while

Thanks Moley. It’s a pretty terrible strain that’s doing the rounds at the moment and it took 3 weeks to shake off. Fortunately I suppose, being unwell prevented me from using my car and the tracking info is quite compelling.
Incidentally, I coughed that much, I put my back out.😩
I have offered to submit my date stamped driveway cam footage once the third party advises what time this accident supposedly occurred, as you can easily see my D5 parked up all day.
They have advised which town the accident occured in and I can confirm I’ve never even been there.🤣

Interesting case, and one wonders what the outcome would have been if you did not have the evidence to prove you were at home. For my Discovery i would have the incontrol logs, but for my other car i would not be able to prove i wasnt there in a similar scenario.

I suspect that in most cases, that lack of vital information is what those insurance fraudsters rely on.
Thwarted (in part) by a Land Rover phone app, there's a turn up for the books

Thanks Dusty. Is it as easy to install as the tutorial shows in the advertisement? I've still got it on my shopping list...especially now I've heard from someone who has one

Yes, just be careful removing the mirror, if you use too much force you can yank and break the electrical connector on the pig tail.

Righto, there’s been a development regarding this spurious claim. Today I have received an update from the insurance company and it states:
“Hello Mr Narpy
This claim 300-12-xxxxxxx has been removed from your policy
Good news, the other person involved hasn't been able to prove your vehicle was involved in the incident on 23rd September 2025. We really hope this hasn't caused you too much stress or inconvenience and we want to thank you for your co-operation.
We've now removed this claim from the Claims and Underwriting Exchange (CUE). This is a database of insurance claims shared by UK insurers to check your claims history.
You don't need to do anything as we've already removed the claim from the CUE database. It won't affect your policy, your no claims discount, your claims history or any future policies - it's as though the claim never existed.”
Gotta say, that’s the weirdest thing I’ve had occur in a long while and it’s one less thing to wonder about.
Thanks everybody for your concern especially the PM’s of reassurance, it’s just a shame my insurance company aren’t so understanding.

I still feel slightly bemused that this spurious claim against you by a third party direct to your insurer...and through them, their underwriters... all without your knowledge or input...apparently resulted in some acceptance of your liability being pre-emptively recorded in the CUE database before any final resolution (in the case of a genuine claim or otherwise) being reached or discussed between insurers...
...Or there's no mention of any investigation relating to attempted insurance fraud being pursued against the false claimant by both yours and the toerag's own insurers in this rather noncommital letter of 'reassurance'.
I'd still be lacing up my ar*e kicking boots whilst typing Mr Angry letters to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) who as a body, ensure that insurance firms treat customers fairly and operate transparently. Call me pedantic, but pre-emptively recording a totally unsubstantiated claim against you in the CUE database is hardly being fair or transparent...
Besides those niggles, a great result though

Pleased that it’s sorted, well done.
Only one thing remains…..a letter to them at renewal time reminding them of the stress, heartache, extra valium and Theakstons Old Peculiar as a result of their actions.
Worth a try for a discount to renew.

I’ve gotta tell you Moley, I’m in full agreement. I think my own insurance company haven’t supported their own customer very well at all in this sorry saga and were very quick to record a fault against me without even talking to me, it’s almost as though I’d been proven guilty without a trial. This will be remembered at renewal time, of that, you can be certain.
To be totally honest, I’m pleased with the not guilty verdict ( or not proven ) yet know that I should never have had to jump thru hoops to comply with this madness.
I’m kinda relieved it’s gone away but the whole saga has left a rather unpleasant feeling in its wake and has undermined the confidence I thought I had in my own insurers.🤨
In short, I now think my insurers are a bunch of front bottoms and will be told to Foxtrot Oscar at renewal.😬
