    Tow assist

Hi all. I have recently upgrade to a 69 plate D5 from a crankshaft fail D4. There is one thing the 5 has not got that I could do with if possible. On the D4 in reverse I could tap the screen and change the reverse camera to a single yellow line to pick up the tow hitch. Is this possible on the 5 or not. If so is it a gap unit to get it.

Also I have heard about tow assist how do I know if I have it or not.

    Many thanks in advance

I have this on my 2017 D5. It’s an option on the camera setting menu, to change from the usual parking lines to the single line terminating in a red dot. On approaching the tow hitch the camera changes to give a vertical close up view. Pin point positioning Thumbs Up

On my model, I don’t need to select reverse. Just switch on ignition, select the camera icon ( which displays rear view), touch settings icon which opens up this screen…

Apologies for screen condition…needs a valet! Rolling Eyes

Hi. Just checked and ye the camera settings bring it on. Superb. Thankyou for that. I have heard from another D5’owner that you can tell the car what you are towing and weight. Like twin axle caravan

If you swipe the main screen to the last page it has all your towing option menu

    I confess I haven’t entered the details of my caravan…perhaps I should!

The caravan has its own traction control ( Alko ATC) and I’ve always felt “safe” with that….but reading how the two systems work together, it might be worth adding the caravan details as extra safety if ATC cannot cope……belt and bracers.

The auto lights check is also useful …saves the wife wandering around the back of the caravan checking in the pouring rain. Laughing

One of the most useful towing features (or rather practises) I have adopted is using the suspension to level the caravan when arriving on the pitch. Just raise the back till the caravan is level, handbrake on, drop the jockey wheel, release the hitch and lower the suspension to drop away clear the tow-ball. Ditto hitching up (in reverse order)

Wolfy. The use back suspension idea is superb. I will try the next time I have to drag it out.

TBH..I use the technique to level on arrival but getting the towball exactly under to lift the hitch can take some faffing about so I tend to lower the caravan onto the hitch when departing in the old fashioned way….as you can push and pull it into position easier when it’s off the steadies.

    UPDATE

For members with unconstrained excitement at the ability to lower and raise the air suspension to level a hitched caravan / trailer, (mentioned earlier in this thread) but who, like me, were disappointed that this function couldn’t be done from the key fob like the D4…..rejoice….there is an answer.!

Our own supersurfer robpenrose has discovered it….

NB ignition doesn’t need to be on but hazard lights do!

And it works on my 2017. Can’t wait to get away and try it for real.

Think I put a how-to post up on here a while ago too...about using your keyfob for other things besides unlocking the doors. I stopped doing the Facebook thing, I've been banned so many times due to me heckling and abusing other members of the Harley Owner's Group that I gave up using it it.

Probably why I missed Rob's post... Whistle

Yes I did recall that ….but couldn’t find it to add this one.
Maybe your “key fob tricks” post should be pinned, and add this one.

For those not having access to Faceache….

    Engine off, hazard lights on
Press : Light and Boot lift simultaneously to lower suspension
Press : Light and Unlock simultaneously to raise suspension

I don't have admin permissions so I can't pin stuff like the useful how-to vids or posts I come across etc. Sad

I wouldn't expect to get anything else useful from me. Just want to manage expectations... Very Happy

    Currently a D4 owner looking for a D5.
