2020 Disco 5 HVAC woes - missing cables?
Hi All,
I'm normally on sister sites to this one: disco3.co.uk and fullfatrr.com, also run by Martin L, but have been trying to help a neighbour with his 'new to him' 2020 Disco 5.
It's been blowing cold air through the driver's side air vents instead of warm. He got the car this summer and this issue has become apparent since the cold weather.
Being a Disco 4 owner myself, I immediately thought of blend flaps and actuators, and hooked up my GAP IID, but being a G3 model it won't work with this 2020 D5 - so no use.
A bit more playing around, showed warm / hot air could be produced from the vents, but they quickly went cold again, so I started to think it was an air duct temp sensor issue. There's one for each air vent outlet - I found out after a bit of internet searching.
We pulled out the driver's seat and found that the two warm air duct temp sensors for the right rear passenger feet and right rear face vent (in B pillar) had no wires attached!
The sensors were there, but no evidence whatsoever of any wiring.
It looks like someone has been in here before, judging by the scratches, broken clips and date code on the audio amp. Seemingly to replace said Harmon Kardon audio amp under the driver's seat base, and it looks like they've somehow removed the wiring to the sensors?
There's no evidence of them at all. We removed the plate under the driver's seat, all interior trim, there's nothing there!
We also removed the passenger seat and both air temp duct sensors on that side connect to wires coming from a larger loom, so all good on the passenger side.
Back to the drivers side though.... As there's no evidence of wires or connector coming from anywhere on the looms under the driver's seat, the only thing I can think of is they connect to the audio amp via an unused port we found on the amp itself. This sounds crazy, but I'm wondering if there's a short lead missing that plugs into the amp and goes to the two HVAC duct air temp sensors in the floor under the driver's seat?
Pictures below:

All help / advice greatly appreciated.

Hi Jon.
The sensors for the rear vents on the B and C pillars, I assume, would be connected via the rear HVAC compressor in the left side of the boot somewhere...again, assuming he has 4 zone AC with independent rear passenger controls fitted to his D5.
4 zone AC controls:
My 17 plate HSE has the rear AC with corresponding B pillar low vents as well as quarterlight vents on the C pillar...admittedly, I've never been under the carpets in mine to look where the duct sensors are connected to the loom so can't be much help for the moment apart from the kinda useless photo reference.
B Pillar vent:
C Pillar quarterlight vent:
I do have a D5 workshop manual in PDF format though, so I'll have a dig through it when I can and see if I come up with anything slightly more helpful.

Thanks Mole HD,
His car doesn't have 3rd row vents, nor any controls for the 2nd row passengers. So I guess that makes it dual-zone AC.
The floor vents for the rear passengers are located in the floor under the front seats and the 'face' vents for the rear (2nd row) passengers are in the B pillar. So I think this is the same as yours, just without rear controls as it's not 4 zone.
The ducts for the rear passenger feet and face are side by side under the carpet, and then the B pillar duct splits off and goes up the B pillar behind the trim panel. Both sensors are clipped into the ducts close to each other (as circled in blue in my photo's). So the foot one is right near its outlet, but the face one is a good way back from the outlet.
Both right rear ducts have the sensors fitted though, could it be they're not wired up for the 2 zone climate? Would seem daft / uneconomic for LR that the sensors are included if that's the case?
I found a wiring diagram for the L462 (in Italian!) which tells me the two right rear temperature sensors should be connected up with white/green & purple/grey cables. That's on page 75 of the diagram, available online through the forums.
There's simply nothing there though... no cut cables, no spare connectors, nothing. I can only assume there's a small 4 wire (2 cables) loom missing; which goes from the two duct sensors to a connector in the centre console.
As someone has been in here before, I assume they may have damaged / removed / discarded it? Or they're just not connected, which I would be surprised by.
On the passenger side it's all good, and the sensors are connected with cables that come from a larger loom and then disappear towards the front of the centre console.
If you see anything in the WM, please do let me know. I can't seem to find a WM without purchasing one, as it's not my car I wasn't going to go that far just yet!
Your response, and help, are greatly appreciated!
Jon

Just had a brainstorm, I have a 2014 RRS (L494) which as you'll know is very closely related to the D5 in so much as they're based on the same chassis (albeit shortened for the RRS).
My RRS only has dual zone climate similar to my neighbours D5 (i.e. left and right climate controls and none in the rear). Air coming out via 8 outlets (4 in the front, and 4 in the rear).
I hooked up my GAP IID and can read all 8 duct sensors, so I think this shows that dual zone cars should still have all 8 sensors wired.
The fact that my neighbour's Disco 5 has sensors in both rear right ducts (feet & face) but no wires attached (or present) is therefore a mystery.
Screenshot from my GAP IID tool on my L494, showing 8 air duct sensor readings:
Any help appreciated guys, especially any photo's you may have of the sensor wiring under the right hand driver's seat, or info from the WM.
