I think I just clicked a link to sign in but it wasn’t Route Planner. Your pages look much easier but I am still astounded that LR charge for maps. I’m not sure but do you also have to pay for updates as I thought they were free but only for first 3 years of ownership. Are they worth paying for?
    Thanks for the links.

I found the only way it would work for me was to use a good quality (Sandisk) 64 GB usb then it would download fairly fast and install without a problem, using a cheaper 32GB gave all sorts of errors and fails 😱

I’ll get a new memory stick and have a go. Still think £89 for an update is a rip off!

Its £89 for a years worth of updates, typically one a month.
As stated, a good USB3 stick is required

If you live in an area where the road or marking/signs change frequently, I’d pay, but I live in a part of the country where the roads haven’t changed in centuries so why bother.

Another piece of overpriced nonsense from LR ripping off customers, but that’s nothing new.

Some years ago (before sat navs) I had a boss who never chose to take the same route when travelling to a monthly meeting or visiting another company. Sure it sometimes meant a longer journey…but he set off a little earlier just in case. He never even had a map in the car.

He always said that by doing so he was taking in new scenery, even urban landscapes, which put him in a better frame of mind at his destination. Mind you he was Welsh. Very Happy

I have embraced that philosophy to some extent (especially in retirement) and so never updated my maps. There have been only a couple of times since buying this vehicle 6 years ago when I came slightly unstuck…both times with a caravan involving new bypasses for larger traffic not clearly signed or shown on the JLR map. On the whole, towing through medieval Lincoln wasn’t a problem ……more character building. Laughing

I quite like Wolfpack's approach to maps. I also rarely use maps but they are handy for new roads or layouts and signage.
One thing I have noticed is that people of my generation have a pretty good knowledge of the geography of GB. However, when I ask younger members of my family, all over 30, and their friends, who are mostly university educated with degrees, where e.g. Norfolk, Lincolnshire or Carlisle is they don't really know or only have some vague idea like North.
Anyone else noticed this or is it just my family who are dim? Rolling with laughter

I agree. Too many people in there 20s or even early 30s have no idea where anywhere is! I was lucky, in my job I was travelling across a lot of the UK from the age of 18, normally driving or flying there. As soon as you start being mobile, and not just going to the same few places, you start to develop a knowledge of where all these 'important' places are....

Where I live everywhere is south, so it’s quite an easy concept. 🤣

The kids seem to know where everywhere is, you know Stornoway, Wick, Fort William.

Joking apart, the eldests partner is a Chinese girl from Chengdu. It’s where there’s a giant Buddha and Pandas are from. Not far from Nepal.

They met at Uni and they are off to see her parents in the summer so I’ve had a look at the area. It’s devoid of Google Maps Street View.

I hope he behaves himself, her father is an officer in the Peoples Liberation Army. 😧
