    Exhaust filter full service required.

    Wonder if anyone can help.
Driving home yesterday after a 2 hour journey including motorway and A roads the car suddenly went in to limp mode and the dash read Exhaust filter full service required. No previous warnings. Starting the car today and the message reads Exhaust filter full and I am now getting the red warning symbol for the filter.

What next and what's involved in getting it fixed. Car is 2018 with 26500 miles.

    Thanks.

Take a look at this thread...sounds similar to what's described there:

    Dieselranger, thanks for the link.

I took it to a local indy who cleared the faults and took it through a regen. All seems ok so far but only done a small mileage as yet.

Helpful forum, had same thing intermittent engine management light on which would come and go. Then after a month or so yellow light came on and then red light ‘dpf service required’ and limp mode. Problem was throttle body flap was jammed closed. Under engine cover, cleaning around flap so it moved freely, reset the faults and everything well again.

Exactly the same thing happened to us on return trip to Devon from Heathrow all motorway driving. No amber warning just red DPF full and limp mode towards end of journey.
Rang the dealer who suggested a DPF regen when they could find a slot to check the car in 10 days time...

Did a bit of research and discovered a fix that worked for us.

Fill up tank with diesel and go for a drive! (Limp mode is not an issue on A-roads etc once up to speed). After 10 mins stop car. Turn ignition off/on and that should sort it. May be necessary to clear DPF fault code with OBD reader but probably wont be necessary once active regen performed.

It appears that the active DPF regen does not happen when fuel tank is less than 1/4 full. The DPF must have been almost full when we passed the 1/4 mark on way home.

Might help someone in same position.

I think the 1/4 tank is in the manual if not should be it is common in many cars
