Anyone had success getting Goodwill payment?

    Hi everyone,

Two weeks ago, my 2016 Discovery 4 SDV6 snapped its crank. it had only done 77K and has an impeccable service history, with me performing interim oil and filter changes and oil analysis as a preventative measure.

Clearly, that made no difference whatsoever. Captured on dashcam, within the space of 30 seconds it went from creating a rumbling sound to snapping, just like that.

My D4 is the daily driver but doesn't get a hard life by any means, I'm not heavy with my right foot and rarely tows anything.

So, I want to try and see if JLR will pay some goodwill towards the purchase of an engine from them as I am going to get it fixed.

Has anyone had success in doing this and can you offer any tips on where to direct the plea, what information to send etc?

I had cracked inlet manifolds replaced on my D4 as "goodwill".

I had the full LR extended warranty but that declined to cover it because it was a "known fault". However, because it had a full LR main dealer service history and had been continuously covered by LR warranties, the dealer had no problem getting a 100% goodwill payment from LR for both of them (on two separate occasions).

It was all handled by the dealer directly.

You could try asking LR customer services directly but they will probably direct you to a dealership in the first instance. Some of the independent specialists might also have appropriate contacts at LR.

Is car is 10 years old? If so, then even if you had LR Select Warranty, which on a car of that age would be all you could get, it would limit the amount you could claim, £4k and would be on a restricted list of items covered.

I tend to think you haven’t any LR warranty.

In the past for Goodwill they also look to see if you’ve had the car since new, how long an association you’ve had with them, car serviced by a LR main dealer, LR warranty etc. etc.

When I’ve been in contact with head office customer relations, they look at it like this, if you’ve done all you can and are loyal to the brand, then they may reciprocate, otherwise not.

Tbh, things have changed, I doubt you’ll get any goodwill in any-case, that’s a thing of the past.
